DX Topics Kuropeans Coming In. D* conditions here en bath broadcast and shortwave have been good except on several evenings, when QRN has been very bad. In the early evenings from about 5.15 mM. till T p.m. a number of Buropeans ave been heard, namely: Prague (633 k.c.) Munich (740 k.c.), Katowice (758 k.c,), Milan (S814 k.c.), Bucharest (828 k.c.). Toulouse (913 k.c.), Breslau {on0 kc), Paris (960 k.c.), Bratislava (1004 k.c.), Copenhagen (1167 k.c.), Trieste 1222 ke Nurnberg (1267 k.e.), Mieole (1488 k.c,). VK’s have also been very good, but eajls are hard to get. J have reported the following: 2GS, 2QY, 8EL, 3FW. 38KW, 4RJ, 4PK. On shortwave I have heard W1O0XDA (20 m.) on a ship 800 miles off the coast of Greenland; also the transmitter of the Awntea, testing on about 83 metres. Station LRU on 19.62 m., or 15,296 k.e., has been heard closing at 8.15 a.m., N.Z.T., and LURX, on 31.382 m. (9590 k.c,), comes on the air at 12.30 p.m. and signs off at 1.80 p.m., N.Z.T. Announcemente of both calls and musical items a been made in both Spanish and EngF) On about 120 m. a number of police stations have been heard, and a number of Dutch East Indian stations have been heard above 80 metres, namely, YDA (98 m.), YDG2 (86 m.), YDH3 (85 m.), and a number of others that I have not identified. the call YVPD2, on 31.4 metres, 9.540 mogacycles, and is putting across a good signal nightly. They announce their wavelength and frequency as above, aud their schedule, in New Zealand standard time, as from 10 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. nightly, ° ‘with the exception, presumably, of Sundays. Stations Changes and News, Weasx, 1850 k.c., New York, broaucasts programmes in 10 different languages, Power is increasing from 250 watts to 1 k.w., day and night, and station is to have shortwave station W2XI1S relaying their programmes on 81.6 megacycles, The schedule of CMGH, Mantanzas, Cuba, 790 k.c., is from 6.55 a.m.-1 a.m., H.S.T. following day (1.25 a.m.-6.30 pm, N.Z.). ; OMCO, Havana, 1200 k.c., has been heard announcing that I.R.C’s are nu good in Cuba. Havana, Cuba, 500 watts, has changed from 1380 k.¢, to 1060 k.c., KGDY, Huron, S.D., 1840 ke, bas a test programme on first Monday of each month, TGW, Guatemala, 1210 k.c., offers free samples of Guatemalan coffee to listeners who report their programmes, TIGPH is operating on 650 k.c., with 1 k.w.
