The one pictured above is carried out in turquoise blue and canary yellow .../t would look equally attractive in fawn and canary. And with a jug of iced punch and glasses with slender straws...um-m-m! Another idea .. a couple of these mats would make a splendid Christmas present.
Materials required: 1 Ball (20 gram.) Coats’ Merecer-Crochet No. 20s, White. 4 yard light turquoise blue linen. 14 yards Clark’s Anchor Bias Binding 452 (Buttercup Yellow). 1 yard Clark’s Anchor Bias Binding 589 (Canary Yellow). 1 Steel Crochet Hook No. 3$. The Mat measures 12in. x 19in. (30.5 x 8.5 ems) when finished. Cut the material i5in. x 22in. (38.25 x 56. ms}. From this cut the centre out 5}in. x 124 in. (13.25 x 34.25 ems), then cut off the border for the hem in one piece measuring 23in. (6.5 ems) wide.: .--- ° Draw a thread #in. (.5em) from the edge of centre : piece, turn a hen to drawn thread and d.c. over it all round having 4 d.c. at corners.
Join with s.s. into first d.c. 4 ch. 2 dbl. tr. into each of the next 2 d.c., * 1 ch. miss 2 d.c., 3 dbl. tr. into next 3 d.c.. repeat from * all round (at corners 3 dbl. tr. into 1 d.¢., 1 ch. 3 dbl. tr. into next d.c.). Join with s.s. into 4th. of 4 ch. Draw thread jin. (.5em) from edge and d.e. all round inside edges of next piece of material. Whip centre piece in position. Repeat border along outer edge. Draw thread }in. (.5em) all round inside edge of hem, d.e. round and whip in position. Turn hem on to wrong side and hem just above erochet, mitre the corners at the back. Thread the canary yellow bias binding through the centre border and the butiercup bias binding through the outer edge.
