The WORLD on SHORTWAVE

Conducted Jy the

N.Z. Shortwave Club

Shortwave Club Notes From the Secretary’s Pen (By A. B, McDonagh, 4 Queen Street, Wellington, E.1.). UITH a swag of letters from overseas. stamp collectors are to hand, and any readers of the "Record" interested in stamp collecting should get in touch with any N.Z:S8.W.C. member. So many addresses will be coming to hand now that I cannot publish the lot, but they will be sent to members in the club circular, I regret to report the news of 4 ‘seriqus’ accident to Mr. Ralph Stranger, editor of the "Seience Review," also founder of the World Radio Research League. | Night conditions are lifting, On Sun.day, August 16, RNB, on 25 metres, was at good strength, though static was bad. From now on conditions should become better, and those who have gone in for shortwave and all-waye receivers wiil find that there will be really a great deal doing at night time, The Java stations haye maintained a fairly good service, but Japan was unfortunate during the "depression," and such stations as Manila have been catches, I may mention that Manila contemplates a very powerful shortwave unit, and I have news of deyelopments in other quarters which indi- . eate that the shortwave broadcasting bands will be very busy places, Senor Cespedes Marin, of NRH ‘fame, ts on the 31 metre band with his bugle and the call TI4NRH. This veteran "of shortwave, with his little low-powered station, helped to make early history. Tor news from the Spanish centres, in addition to the news bulletins from Paris, England and Germany, listeners should watch EAQ, Madrid,-for the Government version at 2 p.m.; RNE, Moscow, about 11.10 p.m., Wednesdays and Sundays, oa 25 metres; "also about 7 a.m. on 29 metres, where the rebels are in possession of a powerful station which was evidently one owned by a radio club, A new shortwave station may suddeniy appear in Australia at any time, so my forecast for enterprising dxers is yery fayourable. I hope, in the very near future, to arrange a special card to. post to the first who sends complete . details of any new station to my home ad- | ' dress,
