Chanel's Offer
x Labour Laws and Fashion House EW ZEALAND is not alone in having new labour laws which are considered upsetting to some business people. Mile. Chanel, the head of the famous Paris fashion house which bears. her name, has offered to hand over the entire concern to those who have hitherto been her employees, and to continue to «irect it without remuneration. She declares that she cannot honourably undertake to carry on’ the business under the new labour regulations, since she does not believe she can fulfil them. The offer is being considered by the Chanel employees with the assistance of their trade union. It naturally involves taking over debts as well as assets, and it is therefore not surprising that the employees are hesitating to accept. Mlle. Chanel declares that, at all events, she will not abdicate her role of defender of French taste for fashion.
