"Conducted by Hx

N.Z. Shortwave Club

Shortwave Club Notes From the Secretary’s Pen By A. B, McDonagh, 4 Queen Street, Wellington, E.1. ITUATED two degrees below 7: m.c. there is a station which plays record after record. Announcements may not be made for.an hour, but during a yery rapid short talk I distinctly heard ‘ ‘Baneng, Java." At one time YDA held forth on the 49-metre band, and I have a suspicion that they are looking for winter quarters. This habit of seeking. a winter abode may spread to Japan as the experimental JVM has been weakening,’so we should not be surprised to hear JVT: on 44:44 metres, perhaps accompanied by JZG, as these two have been experimenting occasionally, . RNE, Moscow, simultaneously on 25 and 19.89 metres, may be héard at about Ri: occasionally. The 19-metre band shows a blank un-

til] nearly midnight, when, on occasions, a German comes through. The Australian "twins," 3LR and 3ME, are also affected by conditions and 2ME is heterodyned on Sundays. ; mo RV15 is back to normal, and his: powerful :35-metre harmonic leads many. to think, they have.a new, station... 1°. The above refers to: reception between 7.30 p.m. and ‘midnight, but a different tale is told during. the mornings and afternoons when, the programmes. originate during their hours. of darkness. Unfortunately most of us are away at our daily tasks during the day, so I would be pleased to receive reports from those who are able to listen, during the daytime. I wish to.thank those who are writing to me as the news and suggestions greatly assist me in endeavouring to present the latest and most interesting news. HAMILTON EAST NOTES. (By "Miss N.Z.85A.) ON 81.28 metres (9.59 mic.), PCI Holland, each Thtrsday from 1 to 2.40 p.m., N.Z.S.T., has an experimental test broadcast for the West Indies, and puts over an enjoyable programme. On May 7 they described the arrival of the Hindenburg. During the N.B.C. broadcast of this event through W2XAF, a Douglas plane followed the Zeppelin over Manhattan and, while describing the maryelous views, endeavoured to carry on a two-way conversation with the big ship, but conditions were too bad. I heard Mr. Edward Noguera, the announeer of HJU, introduce Mr. Edward Ross, who spoke on their musical instruments which are made of bamboo. CJRX, Winnipeg, Canada, was R6-7, QSA5, and ulthough they announced a programme for the next day, they were missing when T tuned in to them, "TE KUITI NOTES. ME: L. B.
