The persecution of the Christians by this ruler: was the crowning struggle of the old idea of a god-emperor against an already: powerful organisation that denied his
divinity. Diocletian decreed that all Christian churebes should be demolished and attendance at secret assemblies for the purpose of religious worship be punishable by death.
