Shortwave Club Notes

FF From the Secretary’s Pen. (By A, B. McDonagh, Sec., N.Z.S.W.C,, » 4 Queen St., Wellington.) FrRom now on all new members and old members as they renew their subscriptions will receive the new membership certificate which is embossed with the club’s seal. For a limited time all new members will receive a set of gummed labels for their receiving station log books, diaries, ete. As stocks of the old original QSL card are now finished we are embarking on an entirely new design. A suggestion reaches me that stations be listed in megacycles as well as metres. The N.Z.S.W.C, members’ list and the "N.Z. Radio Call Book" give both metres and megacycles. Neither of these lists are copied from any overseas magazine, but much of the information has been received over the air by members, by data from the stations themselves, and from ‘latest verifications. In the words of the announcer Of a well-known bi-weekly night "shortwave station, "Won’t you write to us, giving your views and suggestions; we do want to improve." We want to make this page more attractive, and herein listeners cau help. Glancing dt random over the "1935 Radio Constructor’s Guide" I saw a chart of the compass bearings of overseas countries from New Zealand. Here is an admirable chart for those who wish to experiment on directional aerials. I can recommend the "Guide" as a book which will give a good insight into radio, especially to those who, while not having time to make a deep study, yet wish to have a text book handy -which-will tell them about the aerial and earth and little matters which crop up from time to tine.
