OW important a part radio played in the King’s Silver Jubilee celebrations is fully recognised, especially by New Zealanders, who were grateful for .the fine services provided through the Empire stations last week. Yet a brief broadcast of more than’ passing interest that conveyed the goodwill of Americans to their British cousins in their homage to their beloved sov-
ereign was that conducted through the popular Los Angeles station, KFI, at midnight on Monday, May 6. Especially was the broad cast of interest to New Zealanders, as it comprised a happy talk by their talented sister, Nola Luxford, the screen actress, now connected with the, Hollywood studios. . Shé stepped into the part as aptly as on the memorable oc- | casions on which she spoke to the Antipodes from the en_terprising KFI during the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1932. .Altogether she spoke for about ten minutes, and io’ that time she gave a graphic description of events at the special dinner and ball held as their contributions to the jubilee celebrations by British persons now resident in California. "God bless him,’ was the earnest prayer of the Amerifan nation along with the Empire, said Miss Luxford, who was proud of the whole-hearted spirit of goodwill offered by the American people. The highlight of the Jubilee ball was the arrival at 11 p.m. of a parade of Canadian: and American returned solJdiers, their standard bearers heading the ranks and holding high the beloved emblems of their respective nationalities. Following the playing of "Land of Hope and Glory" by thé jubilee band, the-National Anthem was sung, Americans as well as Britons singing the noble words in an extremely impressive manner. Numer-
