MATERIALS :-14ozs. "Badger" Sports Wool. Two No, 6 and two No. 8 "Beehive" knitting needles. Seventeen buttons. Leather belt. MEASUREMENTS :-Length from top of shoulder, 20ins. Width all round at under-arm, 3Gins. Length of sleeve from under-arm, 18ins. ABBREVIATIONS :-K.=knit plain; P.=purl; tog.-together; wl, fwd.=wool forward. Work at a tension to produce 5 stitches to the inch-the correct size will only be obtaine by exactly following this instruetion! THE RIGHT FRONT.-Using the No. 8 needles, cast on 48 stitches. ist row.-* K. 1, p. 1, repeat from * to the last 2 stitches, k. 2. Repeat the Ist row once. *#3rd row.-K. 1, p. 1, &. 1, wl. fwd., k, 2 tog, * p. 1, k. 1 repeat from * to the last stitch, k, 1. Repeat the Ist row seven times . +*, Repeat from ** to ** once, the 8rd row once, then the Ist row once. Using the No. 6 needles, proceed as follows :- ist row.-K. 1, p, 1, k. 5, increase once in the next stitch, * k. 7, increase once in.the next stitch,’ repeat from * to the end of the row (there should now be 54 stitches on the needle). 2nd row.-K. 1, purl to the last stitch, k. 1.
3rd row.-kK. 1, p. 1, k. 3, * p. 2, k. 2, repeat from * to the last stitch, k. 1. Repeat the 2nd and 8rd rows once, then the 2nd row once. 7th row.-kK. 1, p. 1, k. 1, wl. fwd., «. 2 tog., * p. 2, k. 2, repeat from * to the last stitch, k. 1. Continue in pattern, making a buttonhole as before in every: following 8th row until twelve button-holes have been worked from the commencement. Proceed as follows :- ist row.-kK. 1, purl to the last: stitch, k. 1. 2nd row.-K. 1, p. 1, k. 3. * p. 2, k. 2, repeat from * to the last 5 etitches, ». 2, k,.2 tog., k. 1. Still working in pattern and making a button-hole as before in every Sth row, decrease once at the arm-hole edge in every alternate row until 34 stitches remain, ending with a purl row. -In the next row cast off 16 stitches, work in pattern to the last 3 stitches, Kk.’ 2 tog., k. 1. Proceed as follows :- iIst row.-K. 1, purl to the last stitch, 1. 2nd row.-K. 1, p. 2, tog., work in pattern to the last 3 stitches, D. 2 tog., k. 1. 3rd row.-K, 1, p. 2 tog., purl to the last 3 stitches, p. 2 tog., k. 1. Continue in pattern, decreasing once. at each end of the needle in every row until 5 stitches remain, Proceed’ as follows :- ist row.-K. 1, k. 83 tog., k. 1. 2nd row.-P. 3 tog. Fasten off. ‘THE LEFT FRONT.-Using the No. 8 needles, cast on 48 attehee, ‘1st: row.-K. 2, * ps1, k, 1, repeat from * to the end of the row. Repeat this row nineteen times.
Using the No. 6 needles, proceed as follows :- ist row.-Increase once in the first stitch, * k. 7, increase once in the next stitch, repeat from * to the last 7 stitches, k. 5, p. 1, k. 1 (there should now be 54 stitches on the needle). 2nd row.-K. 1, purl to the last stitch, k. 1. 3rd row.-K. 1, * k, 2, p. 2, repeat from * fo the last 5 stitches, k. 3, p. 1, k. 1. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd-rows until the work measures the same as the right front to the under-arm, ending with a purl row. Proceed as follows :- ist row.-K. 1, k. 2 tog., work in pattern to the end of the row. 2nd row.-K. 1, purl to the last stitch, k, 1. Keeping the continuity of the pattern, decrease once at the arm-hole edge in the next and every alternate row until 33 stitches remain. In the next row cast off 16 stitches, k. 1, purl to the last stitch, k. 1. Proceed as follows :- 1st row.-K. 1; p. 2 tog., work in pattern to the last 8 stitches, p. 2 tog., k. 1. 2nd row.-K. 1, p. 2 tog., purl to the last 3 stitches, p. 2 tog., k. 1. Continue in pattern, decreasing once at each end of the needle in every row until 5 stitches remain, Proceed as follows:Ist row.-K, 1, k. 3 tog., k. 1. 2nd row.-P, 3 tog. Fasten off. THE BACK.-Using the No. 8 needles, cast on 70 stitches, ist row.-K. 2 * p. 1, k. 1, repeat from " to the end of the row.
Repeat this row nineteen times. Using the No. 6 needles, proceed as follows :- ist row.-Kx. 7, increase once in the next stitch, * k. 10, increase once in the next stitch, repeat from * to the last 7 stitches, k. 7 (there should now be 76 stitches on the needle). 2nd row.-K. 1, pur! to the last stitch, k 1. 3rd row.-K. 1; * k. 2, p. 2, repeat from * to the last 3 stitches, k. 3. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows until the work measures the same as the front to the under-arm, ending with the 2nd row. Proceed as follows :- . 1st row.-K. 1, k. 2 tog., work in pattern to the last 8 stitches, k. 2 tog., k. 1. 2nd row.-K. 1, purl to the last stitch, Kk, 1. Keeping the continuity of the pattern, decrease once at each end of the needle in the next and every alternate row until 22 stitches remain. Cast off. THE SLEEVES.-Using the No. 8 needles, cast on 40 stitches. 1st row.-K. 2, * p, 1, k. 1, repeat from * to the end of the row. Repeat this row for 3 inches. Using the No. 6 needles, proceed: as fol-
lows :- ist row.-K. 2, * k. 5, increase once in the next stitch, repeat from * to the last 2 stitches, k.'2 (there should now he 46 stitches on the needle). 2nd row.-K. 1, purl to the last stitch, k. 1, 3rd row.-* K. 2, p. 2, repeat trom * to the last. 2 stitches, k. 2. Keeping the continuity of the pattern. increase once at each end of the needle in the 4th and every following 8th row until there are 64 stitches on the needle. Work 43 inches in pattern without shaping, ending with a purl row. Proceed as follows :- ist row.-K. 1, k. 2 tog., work in: pattern to the last 3 stitches, k. 2 tog., k. 1. 2nd row.-K. 1, purl to the last stitch, k, 1, . . Sew in the sleeves, placing seam to seam. Sew the collar in position, placing the ends to the edge of the fronts. Sew on buttons te correspond with button-holes. Make two short lengths of crochet chain through which to thread the belt and attach to each side seam 44 inches from the lower edge
