RADIO QUESTIONNAIRE
JQNGLISH listeners have lately been asked to «omment on their pleasantest broadcasting memories of 1934, Practically every listener grouped together the launching of the Queen Mary, the Royal wedding and the Christmas Day Empire broadcast at the top of the poll. But these broadcasts, lying outside the design of normal programmes, are of less importance in the poll than some others. For instance, among the talks the series on the cause of war (a series shortly to be presented in New Zealand) headed the list, with various religious talks second and a certain series on fying third. Among plays the Brontes’ ‘Wuthering Heights" was placed first, plays by Tchehov came second, ""The Eve of All Souls" third and "Mr. Pim Passes By" was fourth. A surprising feature was that music was mentioned in only about 20 per cent. of the replies, ’ with variety finding a place in only three per cent. and dance music in two. And yet it is an acknowledged ' fact the world over. that dance music is more listened to ‘ than anything else broadcast, Another remarkable feature was how few of the listeners included concerts or musical items in their selection, ; ‘
