Synhopsis:-In this piece the wellknown air "The Wearin’ o’ the Green" is used as the basis for a number of variations in which both the Reed and brass. instruments are successively employed. The theme is followed by a paraphrase, which in turn gives place. to a solo for horn and clarinet (in the minor). This is succeeded’ by a solo for bassoon after which the melody is treated as a "Boot Dance," next as
an interlude on the bagpipes and then as a chorale. The piccolo follows. with a variation which is taken up by the basses and concluded by. the cornets.
