Light Items in Evening Welcome to Worker

To the Editor. Sir,-In a recent issue of the "Radiv Record," Margaret Macpherson asks, "Are we really good listeners?’ ‘Lo quote further from the remarks of this gifteu lady, as she extols the musical culture of women :-'They ‘develop a fine musical culture which is denied to their husbands, who are working away all day and who hear only the ‘popular and often rupbishy programmes of the evening." To my way of thinking, ail thuse who buy a receiver and pay promptly on due date, the prescribed listening fee, are. good lisuers. It should be the aim of the roadcasting Board to do al) that is "possible tu bring pleasure to the listeners in an effort to Keep them govd Listeners, and to iuduce others to find interest in radio. i am one of the husbands who wors away all day, and I must admit thac:i am thankful that. the classical hour is during my working day. Sunday afternooh programmes are spoiled througa lack of variety, and I should very much uppreciate a more varied arrangement of items, If the clasical programmes were diluted somewhat, even husbands who work- away all day may eventually «evelop a fine musical culture. _May I suggest that the various directors of our national stations should give a request night once a month, Twenty jsteners who are unknown to the director shouid be asked by mail to choose an item, and the programme arranged ty the best ad . vantage from the items chosen. We should then have at least one programme each month which would give some satis: faction to twenty listeners. There shou:d _ be no difficulty in getting the’ addresses of twenty listeners each nionth from the Postal Department.-I am, ete.,
