Looking Forward To "Star" Artists
Engagements For Dunedin’s Chief Station — Greek Philosophers Brightly Presented — Series of "Psychic" Talks — Beneficial Educational Sessions.
"PH introduction of the new programme schedule, at the beginning of next month will evidently have the effect of bringing before the listening public a greater number of visiting artists than in the past. An English recitalist. and lecturer, Mrs. Hester Stansfeld Prior, has been engaged for an early appearance at the main station, Advance reports have it that she is a pianiste of some note, and, therefore, her Bach recital from the southern station should awaken more than erdinary interest, The new schedule will also bring to the local microphone Mr. Vincent Aspey, a New Zealand violinist, and Mr. Walter Kingsley, the eminent English baritone, who is meeting with success on a tour of the Australian Broadcasting Commission’s stations just now. Artists from. other parts will also be heard here in due course, QOMETHING in the way of a novelty is to be given from 4YA on February 27, when scenes from comedies by Aristophanes will be produced by Professor T. D. Adams, who will also persunally present some talks on Greek philosophers at a later date. Previous talks by Professor Adams were: wonderfully entertaining, that on "Man’s Triends, Dogs," being particularly engaging, Professor Adams has a delightful broadcasting voice and manner, and he possesses that sense of humour which transfers matters pertaining to Greece from the dry to the bright. -On March 10 he is to be heard in "Euripides, Pioneer in the No More War Movement." The scenes are from "Trojan Women" of twenty-four centuries ago, [DOUBTLESS there were many who wished to hear progress reports of the North Island-South Island cricket match at Wellington a few days ago, and who welcomed the frequent resumes given each day by 4YA. SERIDS of four thrilling psychic experiences is to be heard from the A station next month. The series will bear the title, "Through Darkened Doors," .and the identity of the narrator will be secreted under the nom de plume, "The Mystic." The stories te be told originated in Australia, where they were broadcast with great suecess by the A.B.C, They are most extraordinary, and are so thrilling that listeners will find they were well worth waiting for. ABOUT the middle of next month the Chief Scout, Tord BadenPowell, is to visit Dunedin again, and interest will be centred in a gigantic
scout rally that is being organised, So far, there has been no mention of the distinguished visitor being engaged to give a talk before the microphone, but many express the hope that he will consent to broadcast during his short stay. PERHAPS the most beneficial sessions to the young folk are the children’s hour every night and the educational sessions broadcast once a week, The latter were introduced to Dunedin last year, when many children availed themselves of the opportunity te enrich-their store of knowledge, so it is pleasing to’ hear that these sessions will probably be resumed at an early date, . HH recorded humorous character _ sketches in: which Db and Zeb, ‘the country~ storekeepers, were featured, met with a good deal of success when presented by 4YA recently, andthe announcement that these two comical rustics are to come to the fore’ again in a new series of sketches will"please the majority of listeners. The first of the new list is to bé heard within the next few days,
LWAYS interesting, the talks featured last year by: Mr. W. H. arson, who dealt with -"Famous Trials," are to be revived. The speaker will introduce his latest budget with "Cases of Mistaken Identity."
