DX Topics Cairo Verified. \ VY PRIFICATION S are slow in arriving, but are good when .they do arrive. Cairo is the best I have received. My report was the first one from New Zealand. They sent station particulars, etc., while Lyons P.T.T. sent station photos. VK5RP and VK2NBE sent cards. I have heard several early morning Americans, but QRM has been bad. Cairo has brought my total of verified countries up to 33 on a five-valve battery Set, all on b.c.-37T. (Patea). 1VYA Poorly Received. HAVING changed my locality during the last week, very little dxing has been done on account of masts and aerial awaiting erection. Judging from two or three days’ reception, New Zealand stations are very good, except 1YA, which is not very good owing to the noise level. Americans appear to be as good, if not better, than they were in my old locality, WLW being audible at 7.20 p.m. on December 16. WTAM, KPO, KFI, and KEFAC were heard a little later. Verifications have been received from Prague and Moscow.-157W. (Wellington). Loggings on a Two-valve Set. J,VENING Americans are very weak now till about 7.45 p.m. It is noticeable, however, that stations which
ave on later than 8 p.m, are at improve ed ‘strength. Warly morning Americans are very good just now, but most times that I have listened, static has been bad. Americans on special late programmes have constituted my best loggings lately, those on frequency tests being particularly, well received. ‘The following were heard this month: WHEF (1500 k.c.), WPAD (1420 k.c.), KGAR, KLUIF, KGFG, KFJZ (1370 k.c.), KFXR,; KFPL (1310 k.c.), and KFBB (1280 k.c.). Dxers are well advised to try for these tests during the summer months, as most of the channels are clear of Australian stations until about 10 p.m. WBNX, a 250-watter in New York, was heard on a DX programme on December 8. The "Towa on the Air" broadcast was not heard very well, only three stations being audible. KEENE, KMA, and WOTI were logged, while another thought to be WMT was heard faintly, ~ Some recent verifications ‘are from: KFBK (100 watts), KHQ, KRE (100 watts), WJAG, XHHG (100 waits), XMHA, VK’s 3HF, TRY, and Radio Toulouse.. I have now exactly 50 U.S.A, verifications, three-oz these being 100watters, ‘ My set is a two-vaive battery receiver, -6M.C. (Pleasant Point), Canadian Frequency Test Details, A§ I have not: done any dxing lately, I have no new loggings to report. Two good verifications have arrived from Tallinn, Estonia, and Riga, Latvia, both new countries to my log. I now have 30 countries verified. : The verification from ‘Tallinn reads as follows: "Being in receipt of your letter we have the pleasure to verify that the programme you have listened in the evening of September 19 hag really been the programme of Tallinn radio station. It seems to have been reclamation and: proclamation of daily news, followed by gramophone music. Enclosed you will find two photos of our radio station." The letter from Riga, Latvia, reads: "In reply to your letter of September 29, we beg: to confirm that you have heard a song recital by Mrs. Olga Vitolins broadcast by our station on September 27

at 18.50-19.10 p.m. (Hast Buropean Time), "We thank you for your report and the nice photo you have sent us. Hnclosed you will find a photo of our station." To get two such letters in the same mail with such straight-out verifications ig in my opinion remarkable, as the Huropeans have a habit of wording a letter in such a way that one does not know whether it is-a verification or not.
