‘New Auckland 1YA Mast Compared With Colonial Mutual Building Being Built In Wellington j

FIERE is one of New Zealand’s tallest buildings, the new ten-storied Colonial Mutual Life Assurance building, now nearing . completion in Wellington, placed beside the new 1YA mast at Henderson, to give some. idea of the height of this new Auckland landmark. The Wellington building, which is situated in Customhouse Quay, opposite the Bank of New Zealand, has given many citizens cricks in their necks since it reached its full height, but it is a mere dwarf beside the 508ft. mast which is, incidentally, the tallest structure in the ‘ Southern Hemisphere, and just three and a half times higher than the Colonial Mutual building. The new 1YA will be 20 times more powerful than the old, and the broadcasts sent out from the mast should be picked up almost anywhere in ‘the world.
