KOMO Wants Local Announcements: Is There An XEX?: An Appeal For Magazines: EarlyMorning Americans Logged.

/ | Answers to Correspondents "Bluegum"’ (Whangarei): 3BO, bendigo, replied very promptly to my report some time ago. KFRC failed to reply — to two reports. My worst station is 3WKh. I have sent four reports,.including return postage, each time, but he has failed to reply. -164A (Morrinsville). "Cleveland" (Taumarunui) and others: Thanks for information re "Y." ‘The verification itself is in English, but was signed "XHO Y XEFO." 186W (Wellington): I have never subscribed to the magazine "Radex" so cannot say what is on. page 13 of the October issue, I jus: gave my experience in reporting twice, and repeat that I wash all those who have reported to this station. better luck than I had. Identification Wanted American or Canadian station on 1410 k.e., heard on Sunday, November 25, between 7 p.m, and 7.40 p.m. This station was evidently testing, as there was an interval of about 10 minutes between eaci dance item. The announcer had a deep voice and the call was given twice during the number played, but was missed on account of static. Also a VK on (approx.) 1440 k.c., heard between 1.15 and 1.85 a.m. on.Monday morning, Novémber 26, talking with another VK. The announcer stated reports would be appreciated, and mentioned New Zealand.-164A (Morrinsville). VX Topics ‘KOMO Wants Local Announcements. TATIC has been fairly heavy during the past fortnight, and consequently nothing much has been done in overseas listening. KGRS, however, has been heard at good volume, and should be an easy station for most dxers. XEPN, WLW, WHO, KMOX, KEFBI, KWKH, and WJJD have been fairly good. Recent verifications are KOIN, XEMO (2nd), HSP1, JOSK, JOFG (after 16 months), and a polite refusal from ISOMO, who said that to ensure a verification from either KOMO or KJR, they require a report of part of a local announcement, or a portion of a programme originating in their local studios -157W (Wellington). . Loggings and Verifications. (CONDITIONS in my locality have been bad lately owing to heavy static. New stations are few and far between. |The only new ones that have*been heard are WDAY on election results-KMMJ and KGRS on A.M., and VK7LJ. Several

other A.M. Americans which have been heatd are KDYL, KFOX, KFI, WHO, KSL, WJJD, KTFI, KFAC, and two on 1330 ke. and 1480 k.c. I have been unable to catch any call yet. Verifications are slow; my latest are 4AY (second card), XMEA (a fine card), and VKE8HIK (card), after four months.-186W (Wellington). , Is There an XEX? WCEPTION has been fairly good recently, although QRM has been particularly severe for the past two evenings. I reported toa Mexican station, XEX, some time ago, but received my letter back through the D.L.O. Apparently there is no such station, though some recent call-books give a Mexican as XHDX. My three latest verifications are from XHMO, XGOA (enclosed a beautiful photo of transmitting station and country in its vicinity), and LS2,’from whom a booklet was received some three weeks ago, a card coming eighteen days later, WWL has been heard at R6-7 on late programme for several nights. Several Americans have been heard after 8 p.m.

Appeal for Magazines. ONDITIONS have been poor for dxing lately. Although plenty of stations can be heard, to listen to them for a programme means a headache. I heard VK4LW besides a host of others one morning, but the only call I heard . was VK4UW, Brisbane, just as he was closing down at 2 a.m, European verifications have started to arrive, the first being from Athens, who sent a photo of their station, and also a programme. Other verifications received are a few Australian "B.’s," and VK’s 2DX and 7TLJ, and one from XMHBHA, which is a very large and imposing ecard. May I make a correction in’ Mr, E. Morrice’s notes re DX114A. This dser, who was a very active member of the Waikato branch before he took ill, is now in the Hamilton hospital. If parcels are addressed to him personally, postage must be paid. Magazines addressed to: Patients, Ward 8, Hamilton Hospital,

would no doubt find hin.-
