Answers to Correspondents "Digger" .{Pulkeroro): As tar as 1 ¢an make out, "y" in Mexican . stands. for "and," so apparently XEO-XHFO is a dual call, similar to WHO-WOC.-232W. (Wellington). [They evidently mean to imply that XEO has now changed its call to XDFO, as the latest American lists only givé XEVO.-Ed.] 164A. (Morrinsville): Although I did not notice your logging of XWYZ, my notes apply just the same. I reported a Mexican (?) on 780 k.c. twice, and took the address from both the "Times" callbook and another eall-book, but both letters were returned through the D.L.O. One had no less than 11 stamp impressions besides notations, and stamped across it was "Not known." The second had only four cancellations, and was also returned through the D.L.O. Across it was in English: "Does not exist." However, I: wish -you the best of luck

with your report.-

DX _ Topics VK2XL Dispute Settled. THINK that I can settle the dispute about VK2XL. On Friday, July 5, at 1.26 a.m., ‘I listened for 25 minutes to VEK3XL, on 1240 k.c., and wrote to this station, and received a card to say that my report was O.K. This was on the same night that VK2XL was to test on the same wave, and I think that some of the boys might have heard VK38XL instead of station 2XL, which does not exist. I have reports away to. TLO, Africa ; PRE2, Brazil; XHHR, China; C94, Chile; JOBG, ‘Japan; WRDO, 4AY, and WWL. I have a total of 415 verified sta . tions, with 74 reports away. I have d7 100-watters, two portable army stations in Michigan, power 50w., two U.S.A. army planes, 710 and 715 k.c., and 10BQ, 15W. in Canada.-38H.B. (Gisborne), VK’s At Good Strength. ITH ideal summer conditions DX reception hag never been better than during the past fortnight. . VK’s on Monday, October 29, came roaring in at great volume, and "old man" static was conspicuous by hig absence. New loggings were 3BH, 3DH, 2NE 3KW and 8GZ, while second reports have been sent to 8YJ and 2BQ. I also heard a VE on approximately 1400 kc. at 1.36

am, The station was at very weak strength, with severe fading, and I could not secure enough data for a report. I heard the call once, and this sounded like "4QL." Did any’ other dxer hear this station? ‘ Eastern reception still continues to be good, and new loggings are HSP3 and XHHH. The Indian station VUB has been at good volume. during the last few mornings, and the programmes, although rather weird, are well: worth listening . to. American reception has shown a vast improvement, and after. 7 p.m. the’ Pacifie Coast stations reach good entertainment volume. New loggings. are KHX and WWL. XEMO has been heard a ‘good deal lately testing on 870 k.c., and asking for reports. I received two more cards and a photo. from VK8CH, which makes a total of ' three cards and two photos., all for one report! His frequency is given as 1235

k.¢,. .power 10 watts-

Extracts from Verifications. DURIN G the week-end I raised "my aerial 10 feet, and while no difference wag noticed on Americans, the Hastern stations were received much better, and two more were logged, namely, XGOD (978 k.c.) and MTRY (675 k.e.). Two more were’ heard, one on approx. 850 k.c., and one on 1100 k.c., but were too weak to copy. Verifications are coming in slowly, the latest being from KNX, XEW, and KSL (second). The following extracts are from cards received recently :- KNX: "We are always happy to receive letters from our friends, and trust you will continue to listen-in." KGW: "It is a pleasure tobe able to verify your report of reception of this station, and to thank you for the courtesy of your report." KDYL: ‘We are pleased to acknowledge your communication, and to verify your report." XEW: "We appreciate and thank you for your report, and hope our concerts continue to be interesting to you." Receiver in use is a six-valve a... t.r.f.-232W. (Wellington).

(Wanganui),

I Russian Stations Will Not Verify! (CONDITIONS for dxing have changed for the worse up this way. Static is very..bad. évery night. from 9 p.m. onward. Verifications are coming in slowly, the best of recent verifications being: LS2 (second), WLAC (Bkko and a very nice folder), WMBQ (100 watts),.who state that they are on a DX programme on the ‘first Saturday in:each month from 2,40 to8 am. D.S.T.; ETE, to whom I sent a reminder, "returned: my original card, accompanied by another, and said that the first was intended as a verification, so now I have two. JODK-2, 5MU, 4GR, and 2WR returned my stamps. VK8NM sentia. very nice card and a photo of him‘self and his "rig." I also received a verification from VIKSRP. I had six Russian stations overdue, namely, Kiev, Leningrad, Stalino, Dnie+ -propetroysk, (Vinnitsa, and Kharkoy, so

sent a copy of each of my original re ports to the Moscow station, asking if they could verify them for me. The following is the letter I received in reply :- "Dear Sir,-Many thanks for your letter of: August 27, and the enclosed reports. We are very sorry that, as you yourself mention, we have not got HEnglish-speak ing workers in most of our stations, and asa result, it is not possible to get verifications from them. Owing to pressure of ‘ other work, we ourselves cannot verify reports, except of our own broadcasts, We are sorry that we are not able to help _ you further in the way you suggest. We are sending you a copy of "The U.S.S.R. in Construction,’ under separate cover. This is an album of very fine photographs of the Soviet Union. We shall be vlad to heay from you again."

‘The album has not yet arrived.
