Fine Singing In Final Concert For .1934 A DISTINCT advance in the stand: ard of singing was noticeable al the final concert for the season vf ‘The Circassians," Wellington’s newest musical society, which was-given in th2 Concert Chamber of the Wellington Town Hall on Tuesday, November 6. In their distinctive costumes they instantly attracted the large audience, and their singing throughout the evening did nothing to detract from filiis favourable impression, Under thr apie control of Mr. Thomas Wood, the choiz presented a number of songs, many of them .old, almost hackneyed, favour ites, but there was always something original to admire in their singing however well known the ‘song: may have been. The choir was particularly effective in the "Gipsy Chorus,’ from
Balfe’s "Bohemian Girl," and "Carry Me Back tv Old Virginny," ibe old plantation melody. Several members of the choir presented solos during ‘the evening, and the assisting artist waMr, Sydney Bernard, who, accompan ied by Mr. Frank Crowther ut the piano, performed two of his own com positions and two medleys as xylophout solos, Miss Isa Anderson was the very competent accompanist for the eveninz.
