HAVING had very lithe time for club work during the past two weeks. I have been unable to obtain a complete summary of shortwave doings, but ut night, a great deal of testing has been going on between the Japanese and German stations. The latter have been Working their three main senders on the 19, 31 and 49 metre bands, while JVN stems to have been the key station for Japan, ° VME, which for two weeks has been rebroadeasting the programmes of 3DB, is now revetting tu the original schedule which is Wednesdays, 8 to 9.30 pm., and Saturdays, to 10 p.m. Melbourne time. YT is reported that a new Russian station Popoy is to be on about 31 metres, and that China is to haye several new

stations, but detinite information is not to hand. | R. FP. V. SHANN (N.ZA1C0), writing from Christchurch, mentions that he heard the funeral service of the late King o£ Czechoslovakia, on October 30. He reports 8ME, LOL, GSC, DJA (on W.R.R.L. echo tests), und either 83LR or WIXAZ, Rather astounding reception as these stations are practically on top of each other, 40 metres VK amateur phones were well in evidence. A BROADCAST specially direvted to * the members of the International Short Wave Club will radiate from CP%. A SHORTWAVE writer in Western Australia refers to the facet that although New Zealand is said to be an ideal place for reception, listeners over there do not miss much. OVERSEAS ‘papers tell the story of the "hunger strike" of the staff and artists of XETE. I understand they are definitely off the air. Some fun was also caused over a transmitter used on a‘ schooner while near Jamaica. It appears that something in the nature of advertising was done, and officials of the pareut company rushed along ‘o dismantle the transmitter ; however, the affair was amicably settled. MUCH could. be mentioned about stations, particularly in South America, but it is advisable to await definite information before publication. as many are coming and going. For instance, an Italian station, which bas been off the air, is said to be returning. They intend to open with a broadeast from the crater of Mount Vesuvius. ©

This station was ‘not very good at veplying, and his friend, Mr. Ii, James, VK8LI, was auswering the reports for him. I sent my report to VK38LI1 and asked him to check it up and send me VK3CMW’s card. In reply I received from Mr. Harris himself four cards and two photos of his station. .. On one ecard he states: "Dear Q.M.--Many thanks for your kind reports. By jove, you have a fine lot of DX listeners over there. I have appreciated the reports from there. I have just sent 150 ¢ards and photos to the reporters, so will you extend my thanks through your journal and say that I hope every listener who receives 8CH gets his card and ‘photo off this pink heap here. I have been nine years on the air. I would appreciate further reports from over there from your gang of men friends who listen to the VK’s. 73, and best of DX luck for 1985.--Alf. Harris." VK3CH works on 1240 k.c., and is being well received here on Monday mornings. He states that he has sent au total of 217 cards to New Zealand, and 4868 all told to various countries.2HQ (Timaru). , Wellington Branch Meeting NIE members, 157, 177, 201, 218, 226, 232, 283. 2388 and 240 were present on October 30. A very itteresting discussion on reception, aerials and earths took place and occupied most of the time.
