R.S.A. Armistice Concert at 2YA

Relay From St. James Theatre on Armistice Night — Outstanding Symphony Orchestra Concert Last Week-"The Radio Players" Present Something New in Radio Plavs Next Thursday.

WELLINGTON listeners should have nothing to compiain of on Sunday next, gor 2YA is retay.ng the Returned Soldiers’ Association Armistice night concert from the St, James Theatre, and iater presenting the third act of . Wagner's "Parsifal," in a complete recorded version by three well-known German singers and the chorus anid ‘orehestra of the State Opera, Berlin, conducted by Dr. Karl Muck. f ue third act of ‘this opera, the last of Wagner's ‘works, contains som: of his most beauticul music, includia.s the famous "Good. Friday Spell." and the "Processional 07 the Knights of the Holy Grail." The staging of the opera would: seem to present aimost incredible difiicuities, but, besides being critic. poet. conductor, and the composer who revoiutionised grand opera, Wagner was an outstanding producer and stage-manager, who has exercised an influence in these matters on the theatre of our own time, and his productions of *Parsifal"’ at Bayreuth were one of the features which made thar city a mecea for musicians all over the world. , ; Yr. ANDERSEN, TYRER, who com- """ posed and presented the. first performance jn the world of the ‘"Concerto for Pianoforte and Orchestra in i Flat," on Thursday, at the Wellington Symphony . Orchestra’s concert in the Town Hall, was educated at the Royal Manchester College of Music, and Manchester University, where he studied pianoforte, violin, voice production, elocution and gesture. He was elected Ilonorary Fellow of the College (F.R.M.C.M.) in 1981. Ue made his debut in 1919, at Queen’s Hall, with thy. London Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared at all the important musical societies, including the Halle Concerts, Royal Philharmonic, and Leeds Festival, as pianoforte soloist and composer. BESIDES the composition heard in New Zea'and, Mr. Tyrer has written many other works, ‘ineluding a Piane Concerto produced in 1916; and a Violin Concerto produced in 1914: a& grand opera, "The Alchemist’s Daughter’; two ballad operas produeed in 1926 and 1927, and numerous piano solos. For some years, he has been closely connected with Trinity College as an examiner, both at Home and abroad. Mr. Tyrer also studied orchestration and conducting under Michel Balling, and composition unde Frederick Delius. ON Sunday afternoon, 2YC, the Wellington auxiliary, has something out of the ordinary to offer listeners. This is a relay from the Town Hall of a lecture on Christian Science by Miss Margaret Murney Glenn, C.S.B., of Boston, Mass., a prominent Americau Christian Scientist, When Miss Glenn was in Christchurch her lecture was

relayed. by station 8YL, and many listeners found something to interest them in her remarks. Miss Glenn is 4 member of the Board of Lectureship of the Mother Church, the First Church ef Christ Se:entist in Boston. "Phe RADIO PLAYDPRS" need no introduction . to Wellington listeners, for their excellent dramatie offerings over the air from time to time have gained for them a wide audience. On Thursday, November 15, this talented group is to present the dramatic incident, "Lhe Invisible Wound." adaptei from the story by Karoly Kisfaludi. A strong cast has been selected, and wili, as usual, perform under the direc- ’ tion of Mr. L. J. Maule; this play is definitely out of the usual in ‘radio plays, and should be well worth hearing. T is some time since listeners. heard Mr, Will Bishop on the air from 2YA, so it is good to see his name in the programme once again, on Satiday, November 17, Mr, Bishop's humorous numbers at the piano-all of which he writes .himself-are known throughout New Zealand, and far be yond, for he has had several of his songs accepted by London publishers. On the same evening listeners will hear two excellent recorded items by Ciceiv Courteneidge, the: famous English comedienne-"The Girl in the Post

Office," and "Two Minds Without a Singie Thought’--which are probably the funniest records she has yet made. With these two, and also the weliknown sketch by Mischa Motte. "A Suburban Tea Party," all scheduled between eight and nine o’clock, listeners ean scarcely complain that there is not enough humour on the air that, night. FE do not hear much of : Shakes peare on the air in New Zealand, so the theme programme to be presented from 2YA on Tuesday, Noveniber 13, should be very welcome to all listeners, This is "The ' Seven Ages of Man," the programme’ being taken directly from Shakespeare’s famous lines, which will be spoken by Miss Doris Syme, with appropriate recordings interspersed. N Thursday-and Friday of next week, November 15 and 16, listerers to 2YA will hear talks by the Rey. Fred. J. Searle, who has already spoken from the southern national stntions. Mr Searle has for many years been a missionary in Papua, and he has many interesting stories to tell of native customs, and of strange experiences in New Guinea.
