LONDON TRIUMPH FOR DIETRICH
Crowds Flock to See "Song of Songs" nl MARLENE DIETRICH’S latest picture for Paramount, "Song of Songs," has created a sensation in London, and files just to hand give great praise to the talented actress and to her director, Reuben Mamoulian. The story is simple, but it has real feeling. It tells of a young country girl who comes to live with her aunt in the city, and how the theory of idyllic love, which she has built up from her favourite passages in the Bible-the "Song of Songs’-domin-ates her whole life, even when she has married for worldly advancement. The film was given the highest praise by the. "Morning Post" critic, who said he considered "Song of Songs" one vf the most touching and distinguished pictures which has come from Hollywood this year. "This whole film. is far and away above the level of even the best Hollywood pictures," he said. "It is directed with a sense of real beauty, and superbly acted not only by Marlene Dietrich and Brian Aherne, but also by Lionel Atwill, Alison Skipworth and Helen Freeman. It proves conclusively how possible it is for a great director to make his artists act better than they have ever done hefore."
