Empire Station Transmissions. HERE will be two broadcasts of general interest from the Empire station this week. ; The Lord Mayor’s Show, as usual, takes place on Thursday, November 9. An eye-witness description of this historic event is to be broadcast to Home listeners; at the same time an electrical recording will be made, which will be transmitted from GSD and GSF at 8.15 p.m. our time, the following day, Friday, November 10. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. Ramsay MacDonald, will make a speech at the annual Guildhall Banquet, which
follows the Lord Mayor’s Show. ‘This speech will also be recorded and will fo!low the commentary of the "show." The Armistice Day at the Cenolaph will be broadcast again this year. ‘The original transmission will take place from 10,30 a.m. G.M.T. (10.80 p.m. our time the same day) on Saturday, November Ji. ‘This will be radiated omnidirectionally on GSG and GSI, and will also be electrically recorded for transmissions at other times more suitabie for listeners. The service will be conducted by the Bishop of London. The Brigade of Guards’ massed bands will play from 10.30 a.m. till 11 a.m. Log for Week Ending Noy. 4 RV15, Khabarovsk, 70.1 metres.-This station has made another appearance toward the end of the week, after being silent for some time. On Friday, at 11 p.m., children singing came in very well at R8. They were up to R9 on Saturday. Statice was bad both evenings. HVJ, Vatican City, 50.26 metres.Very weak now at 7 a.m,, the only time that this station is on. OXY, Denmark, 49.4 metres -Tuned in at 6.20 a.m. on Saturday, when music was received at R5, static being bad. At 6.30 a.m. their studio clock struck the hour, but static prevented me from hearing their time. A long talk followed. VE9GW, Bowmanville, 49.22 metres. From about 12.30 am. Sunday at R6, fading to R3 by 1 am. Not much could be understood of what was said on account of static, but a number of callsigns were given, apparently those stations on the network.
W9XEF, Chicago, 49.18 metres--Anud-ible most afternoons from soon after 4 p.m., but very weak, with background noises. W8XAL, Boundbrook, 49.18 metres. Was good volume on Sunday by 5 p.m. WSXK, Pittsburgh, 48.86 metresComes in well most afternoons. Sunday was the best during the past week, when they were R9 by 5.30 p.m. REN, Moscow, 45.38 metres.-Usually goes off earlier now, but was good at R7 on Twesday as late as 7,50 a.m. VK38ME, Melbourne, 31.55 metres.Very good on Wednesday and Saturday evenings till midnight, without the severe fading so common to this station. W2XAF, Schenectady, 31.48 metres.Very patchy reception now, very seldom being more than R5 during the afternoon. They are sometimes heard now during the morning, being weak at 7.30 a.m., and fading to just audible from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. GSC, Daventry, 31.3 metres-Is good most mornings before 7 a.m,, but, as a rule, gets weak soon after this time. VK2ME, Sydney, 31.28 metres.-R9 on Sunday, a little gushy at first, later going into slow fades. JIAA, Tokio, 30.5 metres -Good most evenings, but not quite so loud now «as a few weeks ago. FYA, Paris, 25.63 metres.-Still the best station received here, but not till afternoons now. Is audible earlier, but quite weak. They always close just before 5 p.m. ‘There was an English session on Wednesday till 4.15 p.m., when a lady gave a talk and announced the mousical items. GSD, Daventry, 25°53 mettes.-Very poor during the early morning, but fair to good from 7.30 p.m. till 9.80 p.m. Gushiness is the only fault with this station now during this period, as volume is all that could be desired. DJID, Zeesen, 25.51 metres.-Very poor most mornings, usually only just audible. 12R0, Rome, 25.4 metres-Varies a lot, but poor most mornings. On Tuesday and Friday they were up to R7 from 7.30 a.m. to 7.45 a.m, GSE, Daventry, 25.28 meties.-Satur-day midnight, R6 down to R2 by. 1.15 am. ‘This was a transmission on the omnidirectional aerial. WSXK, Pittsburgh, 25.27 metres.Reaches readable strength of about R4 between 9.30 a.m. and 9.45 a.m,, and then fades away again. GSF, Daventry, 19.82 metres.-This station has improved a lot during the past week or two during the 7.30 to 9.80 p.m. session. It is now, as a rule, better than GSD, being about the same volume, but more steady. FYA, Paris, 19.68 metres.-Com-mences a session at 1 a.m., when they come in at about R5-at least, they did on Sunday,
