Conquering Interference
Reported Success of Marconi’s Secret Experiments The ultra-short wave experiments ‘ which Marchese Marconi has just carried out between his private wireless station on Rocca di Papa, the highest point near Rome, 2700 feet above sea level, and his headquarters at an hotel in Santa Margherita, near Genoa, have, it is believed, yielded further important results. The Marchese has not yet made any announcement, but it is said that he has made progress in the direction of eliminating the interference in the reception of radio messages, writes the Rome correspondent of a London exchange. Interference, it is believed, can-only be reduced by using still shorter waves. For the last week he has made thousands of tests, communicating © personally from his station near Rome with his scientific collaborators, M. Mathieu, the English expert, Mr. Hister, and an Italian engineer. The experiments are considered of the greatest importance and were conducted under conditions of strict privacy. The idea that they were crowned with success was at once. spread at Santa Margherita when Marchese Marconi’s yacht Electra was seen steaming into the bay and a regular transmission from the yacht was heard on shore.
