Need We have a Good Night Melody at All?
To the Editor. Sir,-I see that, despite all the protests which have appeared in the "Radio Record" the good night melody still wastes its sickly sweetness from 2YA every evening. Does the Broadcasting Board never take notice of listeners’ preferences? I feel certain that there can be no one who enjoys this hackneyed tune by now, and when there are so many good tunes that could be used it seems ridiculous that the board should thus calmly ignore the expressed wishes of listeners in this matter. It seems to me obvious that any piece musie will pall after it hag been heard for the 500th time, but surely it would not be impossible for the melody to be changed, say, every six months-if we must have a good-night melody at all,
which I personally doubt. "God Save the King" has been found good enough in most cases to finish an evening’s entertainment. Perhaps if some more listeners were to write we might get some satisfaction-let’s try!-I am,
SICK OF IT
