NE of the British delegates to the recent Madrid Conference tells that the centenary of the invention of the Morse Code was solemnly honoured by the Conference. But on the next day a Spanish proposal to make certain changes in the Code came up for discussion; whereupon a delegate remarked that it was sad’ that they should honour Motse one day and try to destroy his work the next. At this up rosé a Spanish delegate, who in a fit of true Latin histrionics declared that if Morse eould rise from the grave he would support’ the Spanish proposal. The: proposal was adopted! . os
