XETM’s Address. L THST yerifications are from KOA, ’ who sent two cards for one report; WABC, a very ordinary card; WMAQ, 670 k.c. (448m.), who states that reports — are appreciated; and KOMO, with a very fine gold Ekko stamp anda request for further reports. XNHTM, Mexico, was logged on 885 k.c. (official) at R8-7 on Dec. 4 from 6.28 to 6.58, N.Z. standard time. They asked for reports, and gave an: address for letters: P.O. Box 360, Bagle Pass (or :Park), Texas, XER was RS on a special dx programme on Dec. 2. Reports were to be addressed to Milford, Kansas. 131A-- KOMA is the new call of KFIF, same address.-82T (N.P.). .. Every Possible Report Wanted. \ HOPE all members will do their best . to hear the special programme from WCRKY on Dee. 18 (as announced in the last issue), and will forward the station a report, even though they already have a verification. Several stations have complained lately that yery few members write twice to them. They appear to be under the impression that many %f us are only card collectors. Times are hard, and it is not always possible to write stations twice, but when stations are kind enough to vut on special programmes we should

do our best to send inp revorts.-

American Loggings. VII undermentioned stations have been logged on their morning sessions :-- KOMA, Oklahoma; KGRS, WOAT, Texas; KVOD. Oklahoma; WIID . Chicag oa KMON. St. Louis: WTAM., Ohio ig PJAG, Nebraska; KFBI, Kansas’; D, Texas: KDKA, Pittsburg Wee Chicago; WLW, Ohio; XFPMexico. RFBI (5 k. we) has. been very consistent since November 5. KMOX (50 kaw.) is the best of the powerful stations. XBEF-XER. KRLD. WLW, WiIID. have been fairly good.-l57iV (Wellington). XETM’'S Address. _ Particulars of XETM are as follow :-- . JYrequency, 885 k.c.; power, 100 kw, : ‘address, P.O. Box 860, Eagle Pass, Texus. i heard these > particulars from the sta-t¥on;-2 Drew. " » Amendnents, oak has forwarded an amended list of Japanese stations. JOBK is now ou 750 k,c. (400 m.), and JOQK on 800 k.c, (8375 m.), A new station, JFBI, Taman, Formosa, is on 720 k.c. (416 m.). ‘This station, and not JORK, is

DTT SOE evidently the one on late. Also JOUK is the late station on 645 k.c, (465 m.), as JQAIS sigus off about midnight. Re other Japanese stations heard around the 900 k.c. lately, I would not attach too much importance to them at present, as J understand. that there is to be a reshuffle of frequencies, and they are probably now testing. J.P.C. (P.N.): The nearest I have to an English verification is one issued by the International Broadcasting Co., London, who control Radio Normandie, Fe Camp. It is signed by John H. Staniforth, station director.

They state I am their record long-distance listener, and also give a detailed account of programme to confirm the accuracy of my report. They conclude by saying :- "These data may help. you to recognise the station in the event of your repeating what is certainly entitled to be con-. sidered an unusual feat." This station, by the: way, was using only 7 k.w. when I first reported. J have since sent him another. His call. "Radio Normandie, Fe Camp," is quite clear. The programmes are invariably in English. Last time IT heard him he was on 1365 k.c. (220 m.). His times are 11 p.m.-3 a.m., Saturday nights; 6 p.m.-3 a.m.. Sunday nights; and 11 p.m. to 1 am. — other nights (all British summer time), so it is only on our Monday mornings we can pick him up. © London was heard weli this season in Southland. Sereral have written for verification. huf none are toa

Two Interesting Cuttings. I AM sending in two cuttings from the "New York Sun" of Oct. 8 which may be of interest. Mention was made, I believe, of the KTM-KELW controversy in the "Radio Record’ a few weeks ago.--79.0C (Dunedin). "YEENICAN station XBR, at Villacuna, at present the most powerful broadter on the North American continens, has been granted permission to increase its power to 500 k.w., which will make it the most powerful in the world. Stations iu the United States occupying waye lengths close by the 735 kilocycles © of NER are already worrying over the possible effect of this gigantie signal when the increase goes through. It is expected that the energy thus broadeast will blanket effectually all stations within thirty ov forty kilocycles on either side of its frequency. ° . "Tf, with the boost in power, XHR utilises the additional frequency of 655 kilocycles, the stations affected in this conn ty would include WEAF, WSB and "our in Los Angeles two small stations . _have been carrying on a feud for exclusive time on their shared wave

length which is likely to end with a fatal knock-out for both. According to Hillis A. Yost, referee appointed by the Radio Commission to hear hora sides of the squabble, ‘the standard of broadcasting generally in Los Angeles, and Vicinity would be raised by the deletion of applicant stations (KELW a "The chief examiner that both stations have been faulty in their programme presentations, KHLW mainly be cause of allegedly lax business manazement and too much sales talk, and KTM largely because of. astrological programmes by one ‘Zenda’ and one ‘Zandra,’ in which literature bearing on these for-tune-telling talks was sold. Coupled with the fact that California is over quota in broadeasting facilities, he recommended that both stations be deleted. "Mr. Yost brought out that the fight for full time was carried to KELM's listeners through requests broadcast over the station that letters be written to the commission urging unlimited time, ‘It appears in. some eases,’ Mr. Yost declared, ‘that small prizes were given or promised and time on the air donated as a reward for the writing of such letters.’ " a

Power Interference in Christehurch men DX Club Branch’s Activities \ E have received the following report on power interference in Christchurch, from the Christchurch branch secretary of the N.Z DX Club, Mr. Eric W. Watson :- The local branch of the N.Z DX Club has been investigating the problenr for some months, and have now commenced an aggressive campaign against interference. The Public Hos-_ pital was the first suspected’ as the main source of the trouble, but it has © since been proved that this institution is not the culprit. The offending apparatus is in the heart of the city, and has been definitely located by means of equipment lent by Mr. J. M. Bingham. At present our case seems rather hopeless, as the Radio Inspector, Mr. Gates, has not been given a hearing. We are still investigating and are keeping in touch with the Broadcasting Board, and continue to live in hopes of getting some-

thing done. The Christchurch branch has had considerable correspondence on _ the subject. We haye drawn up an interference map coded in colours for easy reference to the location and type of the interference; we have arranged special meetings of radio traders and societies to discuss ways and means; we have interviewed many authorities; and still there is little, if any action being taken by the Government. Radio listeners here thought that they had only to complain and we would rectify the interference immediately. We hare found that it is useless approaching the authorities unless we have definite proof that their apparatus is responsible, We had a yery courteous reception from the Christchurch Board in this matter. New trolley buses will all be fitted with interference eliminators before importation, and those now on the road will be fitted locally. Listeners are now looking to the interference committee of the N.Z. Radio Broadcasting Board for some protection, but it is evident that legislation is required for the enforcement of any regulations that the committee may draft.

Christchurch Branch Meetings Members are notified that during 19838, Icctures will be given at all meetings of the above branch. This will necessitate the alteration of meeting dates from the previous schedule of the secoud Wednesday in the month. The dates will be published in ad-

vance _
