New Zealand Short-Wave Radio Club Notes
ANY and yaried are the letters I receive, Recently an anonymous letter arrived containing ten shillings, half to pay the subscription of a member hit by Mr. Depression, and the remainder -to open a fund for an addressing machine -so' that "we can have a more contentec secretary." Many letters must be from Scotsmen. They start off, "I have a. so-and-so reeeiver, could I turn it into a short-wave set or could I use an adaptor?" but they want to get it done before they join up, so now we are getting wary and drop a few hints about the benefits of membership. Others are worried about a sta-
‘tion they received, "TI had it on 40 on the dial. could you tell me who it is?" We scratch our heads, but later on we -find they have made a slip and said they get VK2ME on 80, so we make a guess at the time and give them the stations operating, whether it is the real one or not we are not sure, but I suppose It goes down in the log book. A member rang me up to tell me that, for about a month, he hag been hearing BAQ come on at 6 a.m. on their Canary ' Island session, closing down between 7.30 and 7.45 a.m. Any listener picking up station KHQ is advised that this is a point-to-point station only. and any communications are ‘strictly private. This is a world radiotelegraph station and its frequency varies with the seasons and the power used’ yaries from one to forty kilowatts. Sometimes programme matter is offered by a customer, but it is understood that this is strictly a point-to-point service only, ‘and publication of anything heard is 4 violation of the radio license and the secrecy provision of the International Convention. 7 The club neither sells nor services seta. and our lists of stations are issued_to members only, together with their club typewritten short-wave monthly news. All inquiries may be addressed to A, B. McDonagh, Secretary, N.Z. Short-Wave Club, 4 Queen Street, Wellington, 3.1.
Congratulations, 2MY Mr. F. W. Sellens is now "on the air" with the call ZL2MY, and has already been heard-on 3.3 watts-at Palmerston North. He has tried phone too and "got-out." Congratulations, 0.M.
