~ News from the United States A LETTER from Mr. Page Taylor, Detroit, brought the following news :- RVA, Rio de Janeiro, 31.58 metres, comes on the air occasionally. ‘It is owned by the Companhia Radio Internacional do Brazil, but their programmes are presented by the Radio Club of Brauil. . =_-~ So far they have not acknowledged any reports. M, Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, hag moved up to 26.8 metres, and XDA_on 25.5 metres has been announcing as XHX lately, and broadcasting music. VIOD, Miami, Florida, have gone on shortwayes with station W4XD on about 49.3 metres. They are on at the same time as W9XF and WSXAL.° W4XDWIOD is owned by the Isle of Dreams Broadcasting Co. . ee W8SXK, Pittsburg, is now operating on -several diffetent wavelengths, . Approximately 9, 13 and 20 metres, and the regular and 48 metre waves. W®9XF, Chicago, has moved down to 49.18 metres. ae WSXAL, Boundbrook, is. on 49.18 metres on Saturdays and Sundays only (Sunday and Monday here), -and is on about 16.87 metres, the balance of the e. . j ° $¢ KA, Barranquilla-Mr, Taylor sent particulars of a special broadcast for the Antipodes on Sunday, October 9, This was received too late to go in last week’s shortwave page, but the editor found a place for it elsewhere. I hope that any reader hearing this broadcast..will send a report to Senor Amortegui, "La Voz de Colombia," Barranquilla, Republic of Colombia, South America, as the, owner of the station is going to some trouble to broadcast a programme at a time suitable for reception here, it being well after midnight, Colombian time. As the Colombian Government is going to-change the call letters of all radio stations, HKA may have a different call, but can. be identified by "La Voz de Colombia," ‘whicn will be announced as usual. VK2ME, Sydney. . Y R2ME, Sydney, 31.28 metres, are making further changes in-their schedule, to commence on Sunday, October 9. Their amended hours of ‘transmission will be, in New Zealand summer time, as follows :-Sunday, 5.30 p.m. till 7.30 p.m., 9.30 p.m. till 1.30 a.m.; Monday, 2.30 am. till 4.80 a.m. oc EAQ, Madrid. A CARD and letter were received from BAQ by the last mail. The only information given on the card is: Power, 20 k.w., and wave, 80.4 metres. The letter is all about their new monthly review, "HAQ." This, no doubt, is an interesting little book; I have: seen a copy, but. it is in Spanish. They have decided to "include an interesting English section." . Notes on Reception. T; is necessary to be up early for good morning reception now as most of th€® stations get very weak by, or soon after, 7 a.m. The 50-metre band stations are improving during the afternoon. There is not much to listen to during the evenings, except the Russian, RV15, who is nearly always at good volume now. 3MBE is well received on Wednesday and Saturday evening, as is’ 2ME on Sunday. woe Zeesen, Germany. A LETTHR recently received from Germany states that they work daily -from 1 a.m. till 5 a.m. on a wavelength of 19.73 metres, and from 6.30 a.m. till 11.30 a.m. (New Zealand summer time). and in some cases for one hour later, on a wavelength of 31.88 metres, ‘It relays principally the main. German station on 1634.9 metres at Berlin. The call sign of the transmitter when working on 31.388 metres is DJA, and when on. 19.78 metres the cal] is DJB. In relaying to North America and sometimes to South America the transmitting station works
most favourably on 19.78, 20.26 or 49.91 metres. When using the two latter wavelengths the calls used are DIQ and DGK. ‘The programme for the following day is announced daily in German and English at 2 a.m., New Zealand summer. time, on 19.73 metres, and on Saturday’s programme notices for the following week are broadcast on $1.38 metres at. 10 a.m.
