97W Faces Grave Position eS ae N view of the fact that 2ZW has been . faced with a loss of approximately £1000, and has litéle prospect either of making this up or of preventing furthey’ loss, there is a grave possibility that'.the station may have to ‘eurtaih dtastically its setvices or ultimately so off the air. Such was the statement made to the "Radio Record" by Mr. R. H.-Nimm6 last. week. The station has done considerable trail blazing, and in this direction can point to the daily devotional service, morning session, and other innovations which have been followed by -other stations. "There is no need to elaborate on the Community Service that the station has rendered," said Mr. Nimmo, "as this has been freely endorsed by numerous létters from such as the Prime Minister, Rt, Hon. G. W. Forbes, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, His Worship the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, and ftom Public Bodies and listeners throughout the Dominion. ' Mr. Nimmo stated that as soon as the finaicial position of 2ZW became khown, céttaii prominent businéss meh in the city conceived the idéa of forming a 2ZW Radio Club, membership of which is to be open to all listeners. Those responsible for the formation of this club, confidently hope that the amount forthcoming will be sufficient to prevent the station from closing. An appeal for the 2ZW2AClub was broadcast from the station on Saturday night by Mr. Arch Sando. A _ provisional committee has been elected to handle the affairs of the Club pénding an election by the members themselves. Bntrance fée is 2/6, and anything furthe will be considered as a donation. Subscriptions should be addressed to thé Secretary, 2ZW Club Committee, Box 1634, Wellington. It is anticipated that;there will be a largé membership, considering the fact that tadio clubs have been very popular in Auckland and other centres, , The meastire of support accorded to this appeal will detérmine whether or not listeners will be provided with the efficient and comprehensive service ai present supplied by 2ZW. £ ep liiah dasa soe
