"ewe Directional Antennae THE new Empire short-wave station now in course of erection at Daventry, will be directional. In considera- ; tion of the wide angle subtended by the extreme limits of the Empire, five zones have been allocated, and each will have an aerial or aerials in accordance with the daylight demands. Zone 1: Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Islands, will have one arrial only as the most suitable wave band. will be in the neighbourhood of 25 metres. Zone 2: India, Burma, and Malaya, will require three wave-lengths and three aerials, one each in the 17, 25, and 32-metre bands. Zone 3: Iraq, Egypt, Bast Africa and South Africa, will have two wavelengths and two aerials, viz., 14 and 32 metres, the former for when daylight exists over the whole route. Zone 4: West Africa, including Nigeria and the Gold Coast, and the Atlantic islands (Tristan da Cunha and the Falkland Islands), will have two wave-lengths and two aerials, viz., 32 and 48 metres. The latter aerial will be arranged to cover both zones 4 and 5. Zone 5:40anada, West Indies, Trinidad, B#tish Guiana, and the Pacific islands, will require three wave-lengths and _ three aerials, viz., 19, 32, and 48 metres, respectively. In addition, there will be created six omnidirectional aerials (one for each wave band), for use at times when daylight considerations demand. In »ll there will be 17 aerials. _ ~
