Answers to Correspondents ’ "Wydrargyrum" (Frankton Junction): According to the Technical Editor, your convertor should give excellent results. Take L3 to plate of the detector, and make -R2, 30 ohms. 2HD must’be testing on a greater power. Yes, we are quite willing to. readdress ‘letters sent to noms-de-plume care of this office. 32T (Nelson): Yes, I also have received yerification from 2GB for daylight reception. My total of daylight loggings of Australian stations stands at 11 verified, and two more are on the way.838NW. 2

D.S. (Auckland): Full particulars of XBR and XEF appear in the "Stations Identified" and "DX Topics" columns, Identification Wanted On June 29 I heard a station broadcasting recordings on approx. 215 m. (1890 k.c.) at midnight, and held him until 1.5 a.m., when he closed down Items and times heard: 12.28 a.m., "I Bring a Love Song"; 12.32, "John Henry arid Blossom." .A silence followed until 12.49, when a Scottish air was played. No amnouncement was made-48A (Pokeno). Stations heard on July 1 broadcasting election results from America between 6 p.m. and 6.10 p.m. on 1480 k.c. (202.6 m.) and 920 k.c. (826 m.).-5SHB (Napier). Station on 1470 k.c, (204 m.) heard between 6 and 7 p.m. on July 6 at about R5 and very gushy. 6.16 p.m., "Jeannine, I Dream of Lilac Time," was played on an organ. At about 6.30 p.m. what I took to be KFEA and Minneapolis were mentioned. Name of announser was John Walls, Does any dxer, know the origin of Morse which comés in at about 500 ke. (600 m.) very powerfully? When volume is full on it can also be heard on 1500 k.c, (200 m.).-67MC (Akaroa), ' . American heard broadcasting election results from Chicago on July 1 on approx. -635 ke. _ Stations Identified ' HLM. (Havelock North): While listen-ing-in recently at 10.30 p.m..I heard XEF’s announcer state that the station

was going off the air in favour of its sister station XER, Del Rio, Texas, Both use the same frequency, approx. 740 k.c. (405 m.),-A.C (Hamilton). "Radio" (Wellington) Jap. on 720 ke, (416 m.) is JORK, Kochi City, Shikoku. He gives his call twice at frequent intervals. Power k.w. Australian on 1410 kc, is 2KO, Newcastle. American on 1110 k.c. (270 m.) is KSOO, Sioux Falls.. 387W: Jap on 710 kc. would be J OJK, but it is quite possible you pore picked up JORE on 720 k.e. L.G.H., (Timaru): KMPO. Beverly Hills. |

‘DX Topics American Reception. LATEST verifications are from KLX (after writing a second time), andKELW. The latter sends a circular to its listeners requesting them to write to the Federal Radio Commission, stating that they enjoy KHLW’s programmes. — KTM (the black-listed station), is evidently wanting more time on the air, at KELW’s expense. KMOX is my best American, and has been heard at good volume as early as 38 pm-60C0 (Timaru.) Recent Verifications. LATEST verifications include 6PR, which is testing out a 500-watt trans-_ mitter, and would appreciate reports-_ and 2CH, Sydney, who state I am the first N.Z. listener to report on their breakfast session. Dxers reporting "black- | listed" stations in "DX Topics" should, if these stations subsequently verify, apprise readers of the fact. Otherwise it is unfair to both the stations and to other dxers.-32T. (N.P.). Something Wrong. (PHERE is something radically wrong with the DX Club. The interest of 1930 is not there. I put this down to

the lack of space for club notes in the | "Radio Record" and too much space in the "Times"; about 95 per cent. taken up with reports from district secretaries makes dry reading, and very ordinary when put alongside DX Topies of 19380.. It was in 1930 I got my set, and. used to rush the "Radio Record" every week to see the DX Notes. This was before I was a dxer, To read the. doings of alt those good old writers. ZU... (P.N.), Sandy (P.N.), J.P.C. (P.N.) RJR. (P Jako _ (Well.), R. N.), Nankee (P.N,), B.W. f .. oo | Hamilton District Meeting -_-- A MEETING of the Hamilton. District dxers will be held in the Toorak Chambers, Victoria Street, Hamilton (about.100 yards from the railway line), at 7 p.m. 2 .on Thursday, July 14, Would all dxers please endeavour to be present? ‘W. New Plymouth DX Meeting. There will be a meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the N.Z. D.X. Club in Messrs. Hooker Bros. rooms, Egmont Street, on Wednesday, July 18 at 7.30 p.m. All members are asked to attend, and those interested are invited. ' L. M. ANDERSON 32, District Secretary.

I am willing to say | there was as much good fellowship then as now. When I requested information about a station, and S.P.C. (P.N.) gave mé same through the Notes, I felt a personal friend of his everi though I didn’t even know his name. If all the old writers would get the emery paper to work on the rusty nibs, the interesting notes would reappear. Interesting notes from individual dxers are required, not long district screeds -D.N.A. (10C, Timaru). 1 XER and XEF. PPARENTLY many dxers are 4% doubtful about the identity of staXBR and XHF. The following announcement, heard from the former station on a recent evening. should explain matters: "This is SER, the Sunshine. Station between the Nations. From 4.30 a.m., for 12 hours, you will be entertained by our sister station, XEF. with whom we share time, on the same wave. same power, so set your dial to 730 ke. when you will hear many notables from the Rio Grande. The time is exactly 1 minute and 15 seconds past 1. o’clock Mexican Central Time, and we bid those in the Bast good-morning, and those on the West good-night-33NW (Nelson)

Anniversary Programme from WFAA, I HAVE not noticed any mention of WFAA’s tenth anniversary. At 4.20 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, I picked up his special anniversary programme at . and held him till he closed down at 7.3 p.m. (1.33 a.m. his time). Re XER: At the conclusion of the medical talk from XBR I have often heard: "Please stand by for our sister station XEN." The | Mexican announcer calls this "XBEF," but an American who repeats the announcement says "XEN." I have heard this repeatedly. Can any dxer explain it? -62MC (Cheh.). DX Jottings, LATEST loggings include KFUJF, KPFY, and 5PI, while verifications to hand include KDYL, XER, KGRS, and KGA. I sent KDYL three reports on evening programmes heard during one week, and he sent me three cards, yet I have sent other stations as many as five reports, and have received no_ reply. Non-reply stations are 2KY, 28M, 2K0. KTM, and KZRM. I recently received eards from VK’s 38BH, 7GW, and 38RI. On June 26 I heard WFAA broadcasting theiy tenth anniversary programmé. Reception was yood at R6-7-48A (Pokeno). An Excellent Locality. HOUGH static is prevalent reception ; conditions are quite good, and all overseas stations are coming in well. I have to turn the volume down on KFT. XEF, KGO, and even WFAA, when it is on late, 29I°O is at good strength at 4.15 p.m. On July 2.1 had 2SM at Ri-2 between 1.20 p.m. and 1.30 p.m, when he went off the air. On the same date XEF and KFI and KGO were heard at R2 without an aerial. No doubt this locality is good for reception, or otherwise I would notebe able to get the above results on my out-of-date set-a _five-valve Radiola 20, I would like to hear how other local dxers with their modern s.g. sets are doing. My best logging of late has been WOV, New York, 11380 ke, (265 metres).-‘Digge® (Hamilton),
