THE public address system installed in St. Peter’s at Rome now includes twelve moving-coil loudspeakers with six microphones distributed at different parts of the building. These microphones can also be connected directly to the Vatican short-wave station, so that services in the Cathedral can be broadcast ali over the world. N an attempt to beat Professor Pieeard’s altitude record, two Australian engineers will shortly make an ascent in a balloon of their own construction. The aeronauts propose to equip it with transmitting apparatus, in order to broadcast details of their flight. 7
