YH first of the midday Auckland ' community sings for the season was held in the Town Hall on May 4. The Auckland Community Singing Committee has been organised for a number of years and its past success has been due to enthusiasm and knowledge. His Worship the Mayor, Mr. Hutchison, was the chairman, and by the courtesy of J. C. Williamson, members of the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, Marie Bremner and Mr. Bernard Manning, graciously coniributed items, The city organist, Mr. Arthur Wilson, played organ numbers suitable to the occasion. The singing could not help going with a swing with Vern Drew as song leader. Altogether the first sing was a very successful one, and the fund for unemployment relief, for which ali collections will be set aside this season, should be assisted. --e
