Short-wave News ee Radio Wien, VOR2. THE experimental station VOR2, Vienna, which operates on 49.4 metres, transmits test programmes on Wednesdays and Vridays from 1 a.m. to 5.30 am. and 6.30 am. to 830 am., New Zealand time. Announcements are made in German, but sometimes reports are asked for in broken French and English. The station directors ask for reports of reception to be sent on posteards to Radio Wien, Johan#$sgasse 4b, Vienna. AJ] reports are ac} rowledged by QSL ecards: N.Z. Short-wave Club Meeting. The next meeting of the above club will, be held in Nimmo's Concert Hall, corner Willis and Bond Streets, Vellington, at 7.30 p.m., on Thursday, May 19. HVJ, Vatiesn City, 50.26 metres: Only heard on Tuesday; vot up early enough other mornings; was RY with slight static, thKD, Barranquilla, 50.5 motres: Tuenday, 3.45 p.m. WS with orchestra, Foreign and English talk heard, with the eall HED, ‘tL held them till 4.10 p.m. but static was too bad. ‘This station is listed as 49.6 metres, but often changes its wavelength, RV59, Moscow, 50 metres: Hach morning till &80 a.m. from Ks-9. ALQAZX. Wellington, 49.5 metres: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7 p.m. W3XAL, Boundbrook, 49.18 metres: Till 4.80 pam. each day, reaching R9 by 4 p.in., sometimes before. FSICD, Saigon, 49 metres: R8 from p.m, every evening. W8XK, Pittsburgh, 48.86 metres: Sunday till 5.12 p.m. with messages to the Far North, also to missionaries in yarious parts of the world, India, China, Iagypt, ete. Volume R8-9 for over an hour. Wednesday and Thursday till about 4 p.m. W2XAF,. Schenectady, 31.48 metres.Audible most days from soon after mid-

day, reaching maximum, about. R8-9, by 2.30 p.m. Zeesen, Germany, 31.58 metres.-Very good, at R9 from before 7 a.m., getting weak and noisy by 8.80 a.m. ' W1iXAZ, Springfield, 31.35 Monday from m., excellent at R9 to R8& by 11 pm. Varies a lot in the afternoon, Monday being very poor, R2 ‘at 2.30 p.m. to R4 at 3.30 p.m. Wednesday was the best day, volume being RS at 2.30 p.m, reaching R9 by 38.30 p.m., when music from the "Show Boat,’’ Boston, was broadeast. ‘ ; oun VK2ME, Sydney, 31.28 was late in starting on Sunday. At 6.30 p.m. they were R9 with a slow fade, going off in yolume after 7 p.m. EAQ, Madrid, 30.4 metres.-Wednes-day, RO from 12 noon till 12.3 p.m.; very gushy. ‘Thursday was much better, being 7 at 12.30 p.m., reaching R8-9 soon after. The programme continued with rousical items till 1.50 p.m., when. after announcement. a march was played, and the station closed down. ‘The call, HAQ, is pronounced "Ay Ah Coo." | finglish was not heard during this They were quite good again on Saturday during the same period. 29 Metres (about).-An interesting programme was heard from an unknown station on Monday morning. I tuned m to hear at 8.1 a.m.. our time. Could not get a eall, ¥FYA, Paris (Radio Colonial), 25.63 metres.--This ig about the best of all stations now, coming in at about RO till closing with the Marsellaise at 10.30 a.m. Wednesday was the most interesting morning, when a "Tour Through France" was made, described in English, being 100 per cent. readable most of the time. This talk concluded with an invitation to visit , France, "where a cordial reception awaits — you." Reports "concerning this transmission" were asked for. G5SSW, Cheliusford, 25.53 metres.It’s a pity a similar report cannot be given of our own station. From 11 p.m. signals are yery weak, but not audible on all evenings. The mornings are better, but nothing worth listening to. Volume is fair till closing down at 30.80 a.m., but always too gushy to be understandable. 12R0, Rome, 25.4 met'es.- This station is keeping on this wavelength for a time. but is not so good as they were on about 43 metres. They are best about 7.45 a.m., going off in yolume later. . W2XAD, Schenectady, 19.5 metres.---At one time, W2XAD was one of the best received stations here, but not so now. Heard on Monday for the first time for some weeks. 9.5 a.m., Mothers’ Day" talk was heard at R7. Signals faded out soon after, On Tuesday they were just audible at 8 a.m, REN, Moscow, 45.38 motrez: Each morning starts about 6.45 am. Usually about R&-9. going off later. KEJ, Bolinas, 33,27 metres.-Relaying a N.B.C. programme on Monday from 4 p.m, to 4.30 pau.; RS. but very noisy, VK38ME, Melbourne, 31.55 metres.Wednesday, from 9.30 p.m., R9 with severe fading, OXY,. Denmark, 31.51 metres.-Fri-day, 8 a.m., lalk at R2-3, music later; still at the same volume at 9 am. Lost suon after. Saturday. same time, about game strength, but gushy.
