1ZR, Auckland

(1090 ke., 275 m.) (COMMUNITY singing has commenced for the year in Auckland. The established committee arranged for their first sing on Friday last in the Lewis Bady Hall. The song leader was Vern Drew, the popular Y.M.C.A. secretary, who kept everything going along in good style. The broadeast was earried out on relay by 1ZR, and from 7.30 to 9 p.m. every Friday this will be a regular fixture. There’s no such thing as depression in one of these sings when Vern gets into the swing. UCKLAND has been having its troublous times, and the recent Thursday evening’s Broadcast for the Vacuum Oil Company at 1ZR was disturbed by a break in on the programme to announce that a riot had occurred in Queen Street. The serious proportions of the riot and the fact that urgent messages were requiring to be broadcast for shopkeepers and special officials once again emphasised the need for radio in every home. Surely this was a great opportunity for the firm supplying the programme to pour oil on the troubled waters. 1ZR Programmes Friday, April 22. 10.30 a.m.: Devotional service-Uncle Secrim. 1145: "Mensama"’-"Numer-ology." 11.40: Popular music programme. 5.0 p.m.: Dinner music. 6.0: Children’s session-Fairy Princess and Uncle Kam. 77.0: Mr. Bill Hindman, "Sport." 7.30: Relay of Community Singing from Lewis Eady Hall: Song leader, Vernon Drew. 9-10: Popular programme.
