1ZR, Auckland

(1090 ke, 275 m.) A SPORTS session conducted by one who has more than a nodding acquaintance with the prominent sports activities is a feaure of 1ZR broadeasts on Fridays. Mr, Bill Hindman, sports announcer, knows his job thoroughly, and-at 7.5 p.m. there is quite an atmosphere of something doing before the "mike," Frequently a wrestling or running enthusiast will ’phone for particulars of some record away back in the ’eighties, or for something which appears. to have a catch in it, but "Bill" comes back with the complete story, illustrated edition, with chapter and verse included. How MacDougall topped the score is nothing to it, It’s a gift. RHE Church of Hugland children’s service conducted from 1ZR studio each Sunday evening by Miss Baker, eontinues to interest listeners. There is a sincerity and true ring about the way it is conducted that leaves nothing to be desired. The hymns are attractive and not the hackneyed variety, and are taken at a tempo that with good effect could be incorporated in some of the regular church services, After all, hymn singing is nothing if not inspirational. and Miss Baker’s service is an excellent example in this respect. ‘HE "Man Who Speaks." a wellknown Auckland elocutionist and aun experienced radio performer, who knows that a little talking before the "mike" goes a long way, made a decided impression recently from 1Zf. One or two short items are included in Sun-

day evening’s programme at 9 p.m. each alternate Sunday. The item referred to was "The Master Builder," a classic in miniature. Since this was broadcast other items from the "Man Who Speaks" are looked forward to with keen anticipation.
