LIST OF MUSICAL NUMBERS for the Music-Lovers' Competition
Third Series "THE excerpts to be given in the third series of the "Music-Lovers’ Competition" on the dates below will be chosen from the accompanying list:TYA ...c. ee eee, ... Tuesday, March 20 ZYA wc cece eceee Wednesday, March 21 SYA . cage eee eee ees Lhursday, March 22 AYA wo cece eee teceje se « Monday, March 28 "THE first series of tunes went over the air from all the YA stations last week, and judging from the interest that has been displayed up to the time of going to press, this will be a remarkably popular series. Even for those who do not wish to enter for the competition, considerable fun is provided. The very fact of listening to the tunes’ and trying to recognise them shows one just how much or how little one knows about music. . On this subject we have received several intefesting letters from listeners, who state they enjoyed the competition to the fullest and are waiting further instalments. Here is a typical letter from a city home :- "You would have been amused if you could have seen our family circle on Wednesday night. Half an hour before the competition was scheduled to commence we had collected round the loudspeaker armed with pencils and paper and a couple of ‘Radio Records.’ We were ail excitement when at 7.30 the announcer said that the competition would commence, It was just too bad that he went right through the details for we had read them in the ‘Record’ time and time again, until we practically knew them by heart. Then John-he’s the eldest-wanted to know who the announcer was. He was not Mr. Bell nor Mr. Ball; and certainly not Mr. Collins. But he was howled down, for at that moment the announcer, whoever he might be, said that tune No. 1 would be broadcast. We were all attention, but as soon as the first bar came over there was a loud hurrah. We all knew that one, and John was allowed to proceed with his.argument about the announcer. "No. 2 wasn’t difficult to recognise, nor were the others until we came to No. 6, which John said was one thing and Mabel another. They were still arguing, and I believe they are trying to borrow the two records to see which is most like the fragment broadcast. "We really enjoyed the half-hour, and with the exception of the famous No. 6 we could get them all easily enough. ' "Power noises and static make listening to the other stations difficult, but we are going to try our luck. We have all decided what we will do with that £5 prize-Yours in hopes, M.K. (Brooklyn)." "P.S.-I thought that long-distance call to ask 2YA to put on No. 1 again was great. Someone very interested like ourselves, but he evidently forgot to’tune in till too late."
