— 1120 ke, 268m — ON Tuesday, March 15, and perhaps on a few occasions later in the week, a well-known New Zealand singer, Joan Laird, will sing for 2ZW. Miss Laird will be heard in a song written for her by a fellow New Zealander, Mrs, Kissin, of Auckland. It is of interest to radio-listeners to remember that Miss Laird, when she was in England a few years ago, was one of the two hundred and fifty voices chosen by the B.B.C. out of six thousand applicants so sing in The New Choir. ON Wednesday, March 16, there will be a special session of Spanish music, built up around a first-hand glimpse of modern Spain. A wellknown traveller, Mr. W. F. Deacon, who was for some years located in Spain, will give intimate glimpses of the country and the people, the fierce excitable men of the south, the hardy moun-
music of the Spanish nation. In vie of the internal conflict now raging in that country, this programme, consisting of conversation and music, should prove entertaining. taineers, and the quick, virile ‘THs special session Hebrew music and Jewish folk songs has been definitely scheduled for April 3, Sundaf evening, at 8.30 pm. On Thursday evening, Kirkcaldie and Stains Ltd. will present their usual studio concert, the musical play to be "Maritana." "Maritana" fits well into St. Patrick’s Day, as the composer was born in Ireland, and the opera itself was partly written in Wellington, New Zealand, and partly in Australia. Some of the well-liked songs from "Maritana" are: "Yes, Let Me Like a Soldier Fall," and "In Happy Moments -~ Day by Day," and "Scenes that are Brightest." Soon to commence are a series of talks sponsored by ° Denhard Bakeries on the subject of "Bread." The presentation will be novel and in-, teresting, and the speaker will be an authority on the subject. The exact date of the first of these talks cannot be fixed definitely yet, but a schedule will be given in next week’s issue of the "Radio Record." :
