Answers to Correspondents DXIT (N.P.): Thanks for cuttings. Those concerning criticisms of 2YA’s anmouncer will not be published, as they are obviously written by people of such limited intelligence that they will never be satisfied with anything. The other we are using elsewhere. C.V.B. (N. Auck.) and "Joey" (Hokianga): Both your verifications would be accepted for the DX Competition. "Digger" (Hamilton): Thanks for cutting. We may possibly use it. DX840C (Dunedin): If your report has been definitely confirmed it would eount for the DX Competition. The Effect of Wind on Reception. A RECENT verification from WBBM states that their broadcasting hours have been changed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 8,-10 p.m.; and 12-1 a.m. daily, to 9 a.m to 10 p.m,; and 12 midnight to 2 a.m. Statice has been very bad here lately, and this, coupled with the noise from a faulty transformer nearby, makes 2YA about the only station worth listening to, 1 have asked the power board to repair the transformer, but so far they have done nothing. What is the best thing to do? {Contact your local radio inspector.lid.] Tas any dxer noticed the different reception one obtains with different winds? Discourteous Dxers. (SONDITIONS have been very poor lately for dxing. The early morning stations are sarcely audible, and the Americans are becoming weaker. Aus: tralian and Japanese stations, are still very good, Latest verifications include .Y

KNX, KMTR, and KFOX, ‘Lhe last in a letter say that they are on the air the clock round, instead of going off from 38 am. to a.m, as in the past. I have had my dx reports returned from several] stations, ineluding 4RIK, with "Reception verified" stamped on the back. I notice some dxers complaining about not receiving an answer to their reports. Are they aware that some’ B stations. including 1ZM, Manurewa, and 22M, Gisborne, reply to reports only over the air? Some three weeks ago you forwarded me an address of a dxer who wanted me to communicate with him, I did so the following day-over three weeks ago nowbut so far have not received a reply. In another case a reply came five and a half weeks later, and the writer remarked as an excuse that he had been busy dxing, and was sorry to keep me waiting. I do not mind writing to other dxers, but Tf

certainly think taey should reply in reasonable time, The station I inquired for in the; "‘Tdentification Wanted" conven of week’s "Radio Record" I have sine identified as KFRG. He is listed as operating on 499 m_ (8610 ke.) hunt comes in

Mexican Dxing. "Kw ORA" (Frankton Junction): I have heard Dr, Brinkley’s name mentioned over XER, which station, by the way, announced that with their power of 75 k.w. output they were the highest powered station on the Continent. I have heard three Mexican stations which. I was unable to identify because all announcements were in their own language. To make matters worse they would not stay on their frequencies long enouch to make a Callehook of anv ag

Forty-two Europeans, DCRING the the last two months I have heard Wuropean stations, but many of these I could not identify. About three weeks ago I tuned in to one on 655 k.c. (457 m.), and for 30 minutes heard an excellent concert composed of yodelling items. Strength was R9, with no fading until long after daylight. I think this station was unodubtedly Zurich, Switzerland, I have received a number of verifications lately from overseas, including those from KROW, KFVD, and Colombo, Ceylon. The engineer from the latter station enclosed a copy of the "Ceylon Radio Times," and mentioned that reports had been reeeived from two other New Zealand listeners. _ There is no doubt that we in New Zealand have some. very up-to-date lists of broadeasting stations throughout the world, but there is one country in par-tieular-China-about which information is very scanty. I have heard stations broadcasting the speech and musi¢ peculiar to Eastern races on the following, frequencies: 900 k.e., 910 k.e.. 925 ke," 985 k.e., 950 k.c., 965 k.@, and 1050 kc. The station on 965 k.e. (311 m.) is prob- | ably NKS, Shanghai, What is the correct frequency of XGAH, Shanghai? [ have two lists referring to this station, one giving the frequeney as 815 k.e. and the other as 915 k.c. Which is correct? [Possibly neither. Our latest call-book gives this station’s frequency as 937 k.c. (320 m,)-Hd.] With reference to the club motto I would suggest that the words "To Help" be part of it. My reason for suggesting this is that I believe a number of dxers are not giving the help they eould in regard to "Identification Wanted" requests. To give an instance: An Invercargill
