M.C.H (Gisborne) -2CA is a New South Wales station. "Red Bird’ (Wellington).-yYes, but what is the date of the call-list you mention? Mexican stations haye aq habit of changing their frequencies at a moment’s notice, "Omsk" (Whakatane),-Your log is fair. However, judging by your remarks your aerial is rather badly screened, Galvanised iron piping, if plugged at the top, heavily painted and stayed at each joint, makes an excellent aerial mast. A Beverage aerial, which operates on a slightly different principle from the ordinary type, consists of a wire some 300 or 400 yards long, slung along the top of a number of posts about 10 feet in height. It is not necessarily insulated, and is earthed through a 750 ohm resistance at the far end. Quite a number of DXers have installed this kind of aerial, and report greatly improved results. Neither of the two DX Cup winners, however, use thig type of aerial, DX6O8W (Levin).-But it was not Mr. Drummond announcing.
Identification Wanted
At 11 p.m. on October 31, a station wags heard on 560 k.e. (5385 metres). Announcer spoke in a foreign language.M.B.H. (Gisborne). On November 6 (what time?-Ed.). "It is mot the Wanganui station.DX10C (Timaru). Shortwave station heard at 7 p.m. on November 8. At first I thought the stranger was VIKSLKR, Melbourne, but on lis-
tening to several recorded items the call was given as KRO (?), operating on a frequency 5825 k.c, (approx. 61.5m.). Seyeral times the announcer called "Tallo, Riverhead, Long Island, New York. We will now continue with phonograph records." The announcer spoke with a very strong American accent. All other particulars were unintelligible. Statie was very severe.-DX2)V (Wellington).

Reports Wanted by 5DR. X the last Australian mail I received a card from VE5DR, in which he remarked my report was the first he had received from New Zealand. He would be pleased to have further reports from DXers. Wavelength 232m. (1290 k.c.),
input 12 watts. This station tests midnight, South Australian time. Address Mr. P. W. Deer, 21 Maitland Terrace, Seacliff, South Australia,--DX5HB (Napier). Concerning Onanswered Reports, ATELY I have noticed DXers complaining about certain stations not replying to their requests for verifications. Perhaps their letters, like one I have just had returned, are in the dead letter office, The letter I mentioned was addressed to U,S.A., but did not leave New Zealand -DX88A (Anckland), Our correspondent forwarded us the envelope in which was enclosed his request for verification. It was adequately addvessed, and we eannot see any reason for its return from the D.L.0--Ed.] DX Jottings. LATEST verifications received are: WPCC, Chicago; KEVD, Culver City; WSUI, Iowa; KMPC, Beverly Hills; and WOWO, Indiana. WPCC. Chicago, is owned by the North Shore Chureh. WIBO relays them fairly often, My best Mexican is XEHR, Del _ Rio. which comes in at R7-8. I think he must have increased his power, because he is only rated as a 100-watter. N. Jenkins (Masterton): VE8RG, Castlemaine, works with VKOWS, Adelaide, nearly every Monday morning at about 3 a.m. When I wrote to 3BY I enclosed two penny Australian stamps, and when he sent me the letter back it had only one stamp on it. TI had to pay another twopence, "Wainui’ (Gisborne): I notice that you have 4ZW, 2MV, WIAA, and KYM on your black list. I received replies from these stations by return mail, DX74W (Wellington): I received a ecard from 4ZP after about a month’s waiting. Aren’t DX-ers wearing their badges in Dunedin? So far I haye seen only one besides my own. 4210, Dunedin, was on the air between the hours 11 p.m. to 12 p.m, on November 11. They would like reports. Power is only 74 watts.-DX8&400 (Dunedin). Particulars of 3CB. FOLLOWING are particulars of station VYE8CB, Hast Richmond, Victoria, taken from a recent verification. The aerial is a five-wire cage inverted "Tu," 30 feet high, and 60 feet long. Counterpoise is one wire 112 feet long and 8 feet high. They use the usual a.c. short and long-wave receivers. Their correct wavelength is now 206,85 metres (1450 ke.), they having altered from 214.2 m. to that wavelength, Wull address is: William F. Sievers and L. Cranch, 26 Wesney Street, Bast Richmond, Victoria, Australia. Statice has been yery had since.October 8. On that date Amercan
reception was very good, the best stations being KSTP, St, Paul, R9; KEI, Los Angeles, R8; KGA, Spokane, R8; and KGO, Oakland, R9. I notice that many DX-ers haye stations on their black lists} Some of mine are: 2KO, 2XL, KG 4ZL, 8BA, and WJSV. 3ZC, church, replied very promptly to my report, as I received the verification back five days after posting, J.P.C. (P.N,): I sent to JOJK for verification all right. but as [ heard a part of the programme conelude with "God Save the King." I was doubtful when I wrote whether I was writing to the right station. Also, I have recently heard this station broadcasting up to and after 4.30 a.m. Recently I heard a number of speeches given, in between which there was much clapping and a few bars of music by a band. Has any DxX-er received a verification from VK-
oUb, mentioned above!

Is This An American? "FRAvDIO" (Waipukurau) : I agree with you that an American station heterodynes 2YA. I have often heard him, and / at times very clearly, I wrote the editor and asked if he knew of any station on 2YA’s frequency, as I heard "Ah che la Morte" being played by an orchestra during a lecturette, and the editor answered my question, by stating that "Musie may often be heard faintly in the background of 2YA’s transmission, and is merely the orchestra practising in the next studio." However, after 8 p.m. 2YA is very good, and I cannot find any fault with them at .

XER in Two States. [X the panel of the relative powers of the American stations seat in by ILF.A. (Masterton) last week. I noticed WDAG, Amarillo, Texas, listed ag 250 watts. I hold a verification from this station, dated April 26, 1981, giving power as 1 kw. Which is it? I see the information about XER is very hazy. From what I could pick up from pin {and it may not be true). his in Del Rio, Texas, U.S.A., and his trait mitter is in Mexico at some place with a Spanish name, Lyidently he has gone across Into Mexico in order to use a higher power than the 50 kw. limit in the U.8.A.-DX160C (Oamaru).
