Auckland's Aviation Week
EE" oo TX connection with Aviation Week, which begins in Auckland on November 16, Mrs. Hewlett, of Tauranga, will give an address from 1YA. Mrs. Hewlett, who is the widow of Maurice Hewlett, the novelist, was the first woman in England to learn to fly. In doing so she adopted the soubriquet of "Mrs. Bird," and has ever since been a most picturesque figure in aviation circles. During the. war she erected and controlled large aeroplane works. More recently, when returning from a visit to England, she flew by the Dutch line to Batavia. She would have flown to New Zealand had that been possible. Mrs. Hewlett has expressed her intention of "doing her bit" to develop the air-sense of the people of this Dominion. 1YA proposes to broadcast a description of night flying and fireworks at Mangere Aerodrome on November 21.
