Short-Wave Club

_..The Secretary Writes AM pleased to be able to announce that we are very close to our second century-not bad considering the times and the fact that short-wave has yet to become known, A member remarks that he had seen only one short-wave set beside his own, and in many localities this seems to be a common experience. Several members report good results from the "Kestrel Three." I have not tried. out this get, but as one member {is a well-known transmitter he should know. ' The station engineer of WSXAL in @ letter received last weck expresses his thanks at publicity given to their special 24-hour broadcast. He stated that they appreciate reports very much and asks if all short-wavers will continue to report. Their tests will be heard here from 5 a.m, on the first to the same hour on the second day of each month; they are conducted specially to asccrtain the most suitable times and conditions for each "country, and from the reports much valuable information should be obtained. By reports is practically the only way that stations can tell where and how their signals are going, and all shortwavers can help in this direction. It is in this way that short-wavers can derive greatest pleasure from listening, and furthermore they give more inducement to stations to broadcast. In this respect the Short-wave Club is endeayouring to earry out its aims and’ objects by bettering conditions for the listener and working for the advancement of radio generally. I have to thank the many listeners who have sent letters of appreciation and encouragement. We are always open for suggestions and information, and, if need be, criticism, for nothing is more detrimental to a society than stagnation. Listeners in New Zealand and abroad may obtain any information by writing me, A. B. McDonagh, secretary N.Z. Short-wave Club, 274 Cuba Street, Wellington.
