Short-Wave Club

The Secretary Writes JNCLUDED in this week’s mail was a letter from New Jersey which contained a dollar bill for payment of the stb, He mentioned that he had won a DX competition, and had received some books and curios from Mexico, An American listener compliments us on our QSL card, which he says is better than their Hkko style, as the name stands out boldly in red, a good advertisement for New Zealand. Reports state that reception is improving. I had a letter from 8XAL, asking for reports on his transmission. At our last club meeting some interesting subjects were discussed, but some who attended were too shy to ask questions. Great interest was taken in an exhibit of home-made batteries. Mr. Clark, of ZLZAW, gave some interesting information and explained many technical terms. A new member asked me recently what was the station with the call CQ. I suppose it is due to the times, but a good many are going in for two-valve sets; from my experience the day of the constructor is not.over in New Zealand. Owing to Mr. F. T. Cropp being ont of the district the 2BA Sunday evening slow Morse has been discontinued, but another well-known transmitting member, Mr. G. King, ZL2GM, of Island Bay, has volunteered to come on from 10.80 to 1 am. on Sunday. He will probably come on "phone before and after the session, and will have a distinctive note, His address for reports is 80 the Parade, Island Bay, Wellington. Since the club slow Morse classes started a number have gained sufficient experience to sit for their tickets. ZLIBC, of Auckland, helps the enthusiast up north from 7 te 8 p.m. on Mondays. He comes in plainly here, but owing to a powerful station just near me everything from 45 to 80 metres is spoilt, so I will have to experiment with & wave-trap. I am indebted to Mr. R. Lockerbee, NZ389W for his able assistance during my partial incapacitation. Practically since the inception of the club Mr. Lockerbee has been my right-hand man, and, no matter how busy he has been, he has always found time to help, not only the club, but shortwavers with their troubles as well, and it is only fitting to place his services on record.-Yours, A. B. MeDonagh, Secretary, N.Z, Shortwave Club, 274 Cuba Street, Wellington. — -qusiemeptgtnteaatpandtanianie te
