THE Rey. Lionel Fletcher, better known over the air as Uncle Leo, is now back from his tour abroad, and has resumed his Sunday evening children’s services from 1YA. He also had his chutch service broadcast last Sunday evening. * ; . o LJSTENERS in the Devonport district are loud: in their complaints in connection with Morse interference from the naval ships stationed at the Devonport base. The Morse interferes with stations on the band between 1YA and 1Z4R, and seems to be right on the ‘awavelength of 83YA. Qn some gets are not very selective the Morse Sernterféres over the whole range, and ' enjoyable reception of any stations is impossible. Thete have been similar complaints before, and it is high time the presént state of affairs was righted. s s ® . [tHE ‘jriternational programmes from 1YA seem ‘to be meeting with a rather mixed reception. Many. listeners sav they are the best evenings in the week, others ¢njoy them, while not, being quite so high in their praises. while others frankly dislike them. Of
course, it is the same with. all items, for it is impossible to please everybody. On. the whole, however, the international programmes are popular, the main criticism of them being that they are not "international" enough. bd * * OR some time it has been suggested that the 1YA Octet should be inereased in strength to include some brass instruments, and listeners will be pleased to hear that it has now been decided to do this. Thus the octet will be brought up to. light orchestral strength, This combination has rendered splendid service at 1YA, having a very large percentage of the programmes to bear, and with its added strength should be far more capable of giving its required number of hours. Even as it is, the variety of its numbers and the size of its repertoire are amazing.
