DX Topics Heterodyne Interference. GEVERAL weeks ago a number of correspondents were complaining about . the heterodyning of 2YA by 5CL Adelaide. Since then we have had 8YA and 3BO, Bendigo interfering. Now I am receiving 4RK on 1YA’s frequency, and if the former continues to broadeast at the strength I am receiving them, the "\ programmes from another main New Zealand station will be spoilt. The next Australian to come on the air, will, I suppose, broadcast on 4YA’s. frequency. Is
bd daicaeeslaeehsictanthanthandhcaanthataAanhon tend CZ rz there absolutely no power to stop new stations broadcasting on frequencies alreadv taken?-Murihiku (Invercargill). {Iivery effort is made to prevent such interference, but DX-ers must be very careful before making statements concerning interference. The two stations should be definitely identified before a complaint is made. For example, regarding the complaints concerning 5CL heterodyning 2YA. Solely on the reports of some five or six DX-ers who reported the interference. a complaint was lodged with the Australian Broadcasting Company. It was later discovered that the
interfering station was WGY, Chicago.Unanswered Reports. HAs any DX-er received verifications from 3EF Elwood, 3KR Kurrang, Victoria, and 3WR Wangaratta? KFI’S Inaugural Programme. it RECEIVED by this week’s mail a verification from Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Ltd., and they state that there are several small ships on the Australian coast which do not carry a wirelcss operator, but have a wireless telephone set installed operated by the captain of the ship. These ships operate on a frequency of 1860 k.c. (220 wetres), and Melbourne Radio (VIM) replies to them on a wavelength of 670 metres. On July 13 station KFI, 640 kc, (469 m.), came on at R9 with their inaugural programme of their new 50 k.w. station. and could be followed right through from 4.30 p.m. to 7.48 p.m., N.Z, S.T., when they signed off. Durin their tests thcy had received some 3 to 400 letters from overseas listeners, many being from New Zealand, and they announced that a listener in California had just picked up station 4ZO, Dunedin, New, Zealand, which was rebroadcasting their opening programme. Their programme on this occasion left nothing to be desired, and I am sure must have been appreciated by the many New Zea-
land listeners who tuned in.-
