Me. LEN BARNHS, station director .. at 1YA, was a visitor to Welling ton for a few days this week. THE two most recently announced. talks in the International Nighis geries are "The Peoples of the Pacific," by Mr. A. B. Chappell, M.A., on duly 28, and "International Copyright Law" by Mr. Julius Hogben, lecturer in law at the Auckland University College, on August 4, Two new series of talks from 1YA which should prove popular are those to be given under the auspices of the New Zealand. Amateur Trans mitters’ Asfociation and the New Zea» land Native Bird Protection Society, The bird talks will commence on July 31, and will be continued on the four following Fridays, being given in com nection with the special "Bird Month® being held by the New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society. ON August 15, station 1YA will relay the debate between the American University debaters and the Auckland University College, the matter in dispute being "That Imperialism is a Menace." Debates have previously been relayed by this station, but they are by no means common. In England debates or "arguments," between two specially-selected speakers were at one time ‘a feature of B.B.C. programmes, but when the speakers debated on controversial matters listeners be--came so heated on different sides of © each question that serious controversy was practically barred, and the speakers relapsed into cheap flippancy st each other’s expense.
