WGY Testing i QN Saturday evening, June 6, at 1015 p.m., I was endeavouring to pick up VK3MB, Melbourne, whén I canie across. 2 powerful catrier, and after a. few minutes heard the following -annduncement :-"Good morning, everybody ; this is the General Electric Station, WGY and W2X:AF in Schenectady, New York. It.is now, 6.45 a.m. Hastern Daylight-sav-ing’ Time, and we-are. tow commencing our morning exercises." At 10,30 p.mj, after fifteen minutes. of exercise, the clock struck 7 am. Then at.10.87 p.m. the following was heard :-"Hullo, 3M, Melhourne,- this is. W2XA¥F ih Schenectady calling you." This was repéated several timess W2XAF then continued with recorded items for several minutes, when contact was made with 3MQH. The speaker in‘ Schenectady was ene deavouring to make arrangements for ree broadcasts through Bangkok, Siam. The speech was very cleat, although the records were a littlé mushy. W2XAF was erating on 31.48 metres, and, although 38MB is scheduled on 31.55 metres, I was unable to locate him on this wave. Then at 11.10 pm. W1IXAZ at Springfield, Mass., was heard on 31.35. metres with dance. numbers by the: Risé and Shine Orchestra'at strength R.9. Returning to W2xAF at 11.50 pm, arrangements were heard bemg’ mate between the Schenectady andi Melbourne ‘Rotary Clubs for'a meeting per the:medium of W2XAF and 83MH. Both stations were still on the air when I switched off at 12.5 a.m. ‘At 9.20 on Sunday morning I ran across a very strong station on about 25.65 metres, All announcements were in French and the station signed off at 9.35 acm, with the "Marseillaise."
