News of KGFJ. STATIC still continues to be troublesome, but has not prevented me logging the following stations :-KGB, San Diego, Calif., 1330 k.c, (225.4 m.): WGN, Chicago, in., 720 kc. (416 m.); KVOO, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1140 k.e, (263 m.) 3 KDB, Santa Barbara, Calif., 1500 k.e. (200 m.) 3 KSTP, St. Paul, Minn.. 1460 k.c. (205 mi KGRS, Amarillo, Texas, 1410 k.c. (212 metres). a pamphlet accompanying the verification’ 3. "KGEJ has eliminated all classified a vertising from its programmes. In this feature it stands alone with only one or two of the major stations. . . This station is probably best known for the fact that it has operated continuously day and night, 24 hours per day, for more than two years. We believe it is the only 24-hour station in the United States,’ : The enclosed table shows airline distances between Auckland and various cities throughout the world.-‘‘Seven Kicker" (Okoroire Springs). [Pressure on space precludes publication of this in this issue.--Dd.] N.Z. "B’s" Heterodyning. STATIC has not been too kind to Palmerston North DXers during the last few weeks and DXing is usually confined between the hours of 5 and 7 o’clock. During this period static is only mild and quite a few Americans can be heard. WUAM, Cleveland, is the best station received, usually closing down at 5.80 p.m. (1 a.m. B.S.T.), Qvith WENR, Chicago, a close second. (fther loud Americans are KRLD, Dallas, KOA, Denver, KMOX, St. Louis, WKBH, La Crosse, KYW, Chicago, and KFVD, Culver City. WJSV, Alexandria, on 205 m.° (1460 k.c.), was heard on test on May 29. KOIN, Portland, on 319 m. (940 k.c.), is usually on the air with their "Merry-go-round" programme and can be identified by a loud droning noise. The N.Z. "B" stations> are wobbling about a great deal on their frequencies. On May 5, at 5.45 p.m., there was a mixup on 275 m. (1090 k.c.), caused by the hetrodyning of 1ZR, Auckland, 4Z0O, Dunedin, and KMOX, St. Louis. 4Z0O seems to be the culprit, as it should be on 278 m. (1080 k.c.). I have noticed that all the Dunedin "B’s" on 278 m. come in on the dial below 1ZR, and usually there is a great deal of heterodyning. .W.H." Australian Coastal Steamers. qT the early evening on April 25 I logged a stranger calling "VJML, s.s. Norah." This station proved to be VJJ operating on approximately 1370 ke. (219 m.), on telegraphy. This is one of the boats, equipped with radio, which trade on the Australian coast. It keeps in close touch with VK2MB. I wrote to VJJ for verification. I have to hand a confirmation which came through VK2ME of my report on receeption from’ VJML. It appears that the latter will verify reports
on any of the ships they work. Statice has been very bad in Taranaki for the last three weeks, and I have logged only one station, KLS, during this period. I have. verifications to hand of daylight recep-. tion from the following Australian stations :-3AR, 8DB, 5CL, 2FC, 2LB, and 4QG. I heard 3B0, Bendigo, Victoria, on March 17, and have written for verification. I had’ splendid reception from ORR Swdnew on Anni] 97 at 249 tn tha
afternoon.-

DX Club to Have Constitution Suggestions Invited [N response to many requests from readers, it has been decided to devise a constitution for the DX Club, but 2 suitable one has not yet been decided upon, as it is felt that DX-ers themselves should have some say in the matter. Consequently, suggestions concerning this are invited, and it is hoped that these will be sent in as soon as possible so that the club may be placed on a definite footing at an early date. It has also been decided that a DX badge should be struck, and readers ave invited to forward suitable designs. To the entrant whose design is . finally accepted the "Radio Record" will award half a guinea, or alternatively, one year’s free subscription to the "Radio Record," each plus a free badge.
i 'DX Notepaper ~ DX’ers! Write for that verification on D.X. notepaper and avoid missing out important details. Takes a quarter of the time to write out, too..- Obtainable from P.O. Box 1032, Wellington, in two-dozen lots (minimum order), price 1/6, or six dozen for 4/-, post free.
