From Auckland ‘THE afternoon home science talk from 1YA, 2YA, and 3YA, prepared by the Home Science Hxtension Department of Otago University, will be cn "New Ways of Using Apples." NDER the auspices of the N.Z. Manufacturers’ Association, a lecturette entitled "Bedsteads and Bedding" will be given from 1YA. The evening’s programme will be the first of a series to be given by the Auckland Savage Club Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Archie Don. Bohemian clubs of Auckland are very fortunate in the fine orchestras they possess, and listeners will this evening be privileged to hear one of the finest, which has hitherto played only for the entertainment of members of the club, A very fine programme has ‘been arranged, and among the items by the orchestra will be "Oberon," "Plantation Songs," "Shepherd’s Hey," "Petite Suité de Concert," "Entry of
the Boyards,’ and the march from "Aida." Humorous items will be given by. Savage J..Hogben and Savage W. H. Y¥. Taine. Baritone solos. by Savage Bernard Carter will include the ‘"‘Toreador Song," from "Carmen," to be sung to orchestral accompaniment. Wellington Features ISS I. F. MEADOWS will be the .’ speaker for the home science talk from 2YA, At 7.40 pm. Mr. W. EH. Priestly will give a lecturette on "Modern Ballroom Dancing." The concert programme is to be provided by a party of entertainers known ‘as "The Paua Club." There will be plenty of variety. on both the vocal and instrumental sides. The programme will also include two sketches, . From 3YA 4 PROGRAMMB of the operaticclassical type has been arranged for this evening. Among the. artists appearing on the programme is Mr. Clive Hindle, wha is now a member of the Salon Quartet, having replaced Mr. J. Graham Young. The latter has resigned owing to pressure on his time and frequent absence from' -Christchurch. One of Mr. Hindle’s songs will
be: "fhe Song of Bacchus" (from "Hamlet"), very seldom. heard. Two quartets, "Harly One Morning" (an Wnglish folk song), and "Land of Hope and Glory," will be sung. Pianoforte solos will be played by Mrs. Madeline Pooke, of Pareora, a very artistic performer and well known in musical circles as Miss Madeline Hughes, and a quintet consisting of two violins, ’cello, harp and organ, will play "Meditation." An enjoyable orchestral programme will be provided by vagy Studio Octet under Mr. Harold Bee . ; .
