Auckland Features A FEW weeks ago the Birkenhead Municipal Band, under the direction of Lieutenant J. T. Lighton, made its first appearance: at 1YA and brilliantly rendered many pieces. Tt will perform again this evening. This band, from the borough across the harbour, is looked upon as one of ‘the finest brass band combinations in the North Island. * The assisting artists are of a high standard. 3YA Programme OTH folk songs.and operatic solos will be found in the programme, the quartets comprising a Swabian and a Hampshire folk song, . while there will.also be operatic duets. Contributing to the programme will be the well-known concert hall favourite, Mrs. K. Hartshorn, elocutioniste, and an instrumental programme will be provided by the Christchurch Broadeasting Trio.
Notes from 4YA "THE talk to be given by the Home Science Extension Department of Otago University at 4YA this afternoon will be on "Some Suggestions for Children’s Parties." At 7.15 Mr. L. W. McCaskill will broadeast a review of the principal articles in the October issue of the "Journal of Agriculture." Both talks have been arranged for by the 4YA Primary Productions Committee. , Mr. Arthur Gordon’s orchestra, which is one of the most popular combinations engaged by dancing enthusiasts in Dunedin, will supply all the instrumental music on this, 4YA’s popular. night. The very latest dance hits and popular melodies will be played in addition to a banjo and a violin solo by two members of the orchestra,
At the recent Charity Ball held in the Town Hall, where there were over two thousand people present, Arthur Gordon’s Orchestra provided the dance music and its playing created a furore. Novel items will be found in two vocal duets to be presented by Misses BR. J. and B. Ritchie. The voices of these two young ladies blend admirably, and both artists broadcast very well indeed. They have appeared quite recently on the competitions platform in Dunedin, and have an exceptionally fine record with regard to their duet performances, Mr. James Paterson, Dunedin’s Harry Lauder, will present three items, which have not previously been performed in New Zealand. To complete the programme Miss McGregor, elocutioniste, will present two bright numbers.
